Electronic Mosquito repellors.. Do they work?

I have seen some IM members mention they use electric mosquito repellors to keep away the lil biters.

Do these work? Can anyone suggest a good brand that might be available in Australia, or the most common in India.

Cheers for your help

I had bought one pocket gizmo in Singapore a few years ago, which seemed to attract the damn things.

These days, at traffic lights here, there are people selling small tennis racquets... rechargeable mosquito swatters. Haven't bought one, hope it doesn't recharge the mosquitoes instead.

These have been mentioned on IM. Not for me, I think. I like to smash them with my hand

Yes, that is the problem. In scientific tests they are lousy. There is something that works but involves a propane tank! Before you die laughing my homebase on the outskirts of Hyderabad is a malarial pesthole so I have a portable version about the size of a 2 liter softdrink bottle. There are natural alternatives also but I hate carrying that big plant pot around. Enjoy..

mosquitoes are very fond of my daughter here in perth. i buy those little things you plug into a powerpoint and replace the pad every so often and they seem to work well. you can buy them at supermarkets along with all the other insect control stuff, they are easily identifiable as they have a three point plug on them. i can't think of the brands off the top of my head, but if you have a good look in the pest control area i'm sure you'll find one. and they are small and light.

now you'll just need a converter-thingy to plug them in.

I use one of those tennis racquets Capt Mahajan mentioned. They are very effective in the bed room situation when there are few mosquitoes around. With a lot of them it is a lot of work swatting. Good exercise though.

Oh!, forgot to mention. Dont pay more than Rs.100 for the racquets, Rs.80 would be a very good bargain.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Bummer.. I thought there might be something I could use instead of chemicals to keep the mozzies away. Oh well....

Hmmmm.. think of the money someone will make when they invent one!! I'd love a piece of that action

Not only do the electronic gizmos, the ones that produce a sound that the mossies are supposed to dislike (picture one with its hands over its ears, getting out of their fat), but I think a Trades Description case was brought against someone in UK for selling them!

Needless to say, they are available in India! .

Better news is that the plug-in pad burners are easily available here, so no need to bring with or get adapter
