Also, though the operators dont charge for Roaming for data, the pulse rate changes when roaming. While in the home circle they charge you on a per KB basis, in Roaming they charge on a per 10 KB basis.
fully agree on the blackberry deal...

for airtel post-paid, i have a fixed price & no extra charges for roaming usage of data. for bsnl pre-paid, i did not see any difference in data usage or charging basis during roaming. both are GPRS plans.

Both time I went to India, I didn't have a computer. I didn't miss it at all! There was too much to do/see. Whenever I came across an internet cafe, I'd stop and catch up on e-mail and let people know the latest.

My hubby and I decided that the next time we travel abroad, we are going to get a Nook.... lightweight and has internet capability plus you can put pictures on it. When we went to China, we took a netbook; too much weight and we didn't use it enough to warrant the extra weight.

Just checked BSNL tariff. You are right. BSNL does not charge a separate pulse for roaming. Its pulse is standard at 10KB for both home circle and roaming.

Other operators may use different metrics for charging.

btw, for checking PNR status, you can just use 139 from any indian SIM - it costs 2 rs per min. works from landline too.
A data plan is not worth it for me: I don't use the phone enough. I prepay Rs.500 and it lasts me months, unless I need to make calls to abroad. What I will do, next time I go away, is take a short-term data plan. Lesson learnt the hard way!

Roaming charges (within India), for calls, are supposed to be on the way out. I'll believe it when I see it!
