Downloading Photos in India?

I'm just wondering how easy (or not!) it is to download images from your camera within India? What's the best way to do it? Get them burned onto CD? I'm thinking about getting an iPod photo or something similar. If I do will an internet cafe allow me to download images onto the PC and then upload to the iPod? Presumably software is needed for this though. Is it all too much hassle? Should I just find a photo-shop to burn from memory card onto CD? Any advice appreciated! I am overwhelmed by technology! ;-)

Well, you could buy a camera connector for the iPod ($29 stateside) which will allow you to plug your digicam straight into an iPod photo (check at http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/photos/ to make sure it's compatible with your camera). That way you can copy photos straight from camera to iPod without need for a computer.

Oh thanks for that! I didn't know that was possible with the iPod. I thought you needed a PC. Will check it out! Cheers!

Downloading digital photos onto Portable Hard Drive

Someone tried to sell me http:/www.johnlewis.com/Sports+and+Leisure/Digital+Photography/+Memory/Hard .

It seems rather expensive at £169 but is another solution.

Sorry, don't know why link didn't work.

It's called SmartDisk FotoChute Portable Hard Drive. Battery powered, 20GB hard drive with simple operating system and interface and fits into any camera bag. Stores up to 20,000 photos.

Thanks again seenthelight. I've just had a look at that and it looks pretty good. It does seem expensive though considering it is literally just a storage device. At least a photo iPod would also allow me to listen to music too. Argh! So much research to do!

Mercedes - I debated whether to buy the HD storage unit but decided to
buy a 512mb XD picture card instead (takes 339 pics at 6m pixels). At 3m pixels, takes 651 pics! I bought it on-line at www.digiprintuk.com and it cost only £35. Shop prices about £55.

I also have a 128mb XD card so I hope this will be sufficient storage for a month in India. Perhaps not, in which case I'm packing my USB cable in the hope I'll be able to burn pics onto a disk.

(Always such difficult choices but usually comes down to available money!)
