Digital Camera Battery Charger Use in India

Just about one month (and counting) before we leave for India. Does anybody have experience with using a digital camera battery charger? I read that voltage converters shouldn't be used with battery chargers. I have a Nikon COOLPIX 3700 and am using a Nikon MH61 lithium ion battery charger. Thanks for your advice.

It shudn't be a problem, just carry an international adaptor (U get them easily in the cities here) coz the pins that fit into the power socket differ from that in the US. I hope U carrying an extra battery coz U will only find them in big cities if U need to replace it.

you can buy an adaptor at most Indian camera electrical shops for about 25 rupees.

I used my battery charger with an adapter and it worked fine. But as I was passing thru Madurai I realized I had left my charger in Mysore. The local hardware guy said no problem he'll order in a recharger for the next morning if i wanted to stick around town.Well that claim was repeated the next three days.I finally left town without it and spent the rest of the trip carrying tons of batteries with me.It wasn't that unpleasant tho cause Madurai was a great place to be stranded. So they do work just don't lose it when your away from the bigger cities. Also mine takes 6 hours to recharge and when i was in Mandu the power was out more often than it was on.

Oops in the above post i said I was stranded in the small bucolic town of Madurai.I meant Madikeri. From what I understand Madurai is many things but neither small nor bucolic.

220/110

Any 220 chrager will also charge at 110 volts. It just takes a bit more time.

BH Photo lists the charger as AC 100 - 240v, 50 - 60Hz. Like most battery chargers out there it will work find with no voltage adapter.

You just need a plug adapter.

Be sure to carry a spare set of batteries, so that when one set runs dry, you can quickly replace them.

Because of the electricity problems, I did all my battery charging at night, and it worked just fine for me.

Be sure to take lots of memory, too... I had 3 256k memory sticks with me -- the biggest available at the time.
