Data recovery

Dear all

Greetings from beautiful Leh, where I stay at the moment.

I have a question concerning data recovery.
Soon I will travel to Delhi and I am looking for a trustable adress / company for a data recovery. My Apple Macintosh broke down, and I need to recover my music (iTunes), emails (Mail) and photos (iPhoto).
Plus, I want to have saved all this data on CDs or DVDs. I will bring them the harddisc and they should send me the data home (Europe).
I have already visited the Apple store at Ansal Plaza - they will get the laptop fixed there, but can not bring back the data.

So - should I just go to Nehru Place and find someone...? I would be very grateful for your advise and experiences.

Thanks a lot

Sandra

Why don't you get the data recovery done in your home country?

There are many people in Nehru Place market who do that...they have specialized software with recover around 90% of data. I got it done few years back and paid Rs.3000 for a 8.4 GB HDD..

However the main issue might be Mac, people here are not mac friendly and finding someone who can do it for mac might be c challenge...but I would say atleast go to Nehru Place market and look for any one who can recover data. He will probably guide you to someone who can handle mac as well..

Unless there is no physical damage to the hard disc data recovery can be done. The only problem I see is the Apple Macintosh. Very few will have expertise & software for data recovery from a Macintosh. Your only chance is to try the jungle at Nehru Place.

i gave my hard disk to a small shop in mumbai. that guy asked for only 500 Rs. but later called me to inform that there is nothing in the hard disk.

so be careful.

May or may not help ( you must have a working computer to use them ) but what it's worth, some free tools:

http://www.undelete-plus.com/

http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file...htm?language=1

http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm

http://www.recuva.com/

http://officerecovery.com/freeundelete/

As usual, please use at your own risk. These may or may not work on Mac, I don't know, as I don't have a Mac.

Data recovery

Dear all

Thanks for your advise.

In the meantime, the broken hardisc got replaced by the Apple store here. They said that it won't be able to get any data back, the thing is totally dead.
I did not gave up, went to Nehru Place, and after a lot asking around, found a trustworthy looking data recovery lab. After checking the harddisk, those guys told me that they will be able to restore 80 - 90 % of the data. Not too bad i would say... we will see!

All the best

Sandra
