Question Covering my laptop against theft, accidental damage in India?

Hi everyone.

I'm struggling with this one!

I go to Goa, India in 2 weeks time and stay for 3 months, I'll be taking my stupidly expensive Apple Macbook to use, but I'm struggling to insure it!

I need cover for 3 months, but willing to pay for a year as I doubt I'll get just 3 months cover, the thing is, my laptop is over 6 months old, I want NO excess, plus complete cover and 48 hour replacement. A lot of people suggested adding to contents insurance but I don't have a house / contents insurance to add it to!

Can anyone reccomend someone they have used, or know of? I appreciate it.....

I have been carrying my macbook with just a 3-year Apple Care. Mui Bonita/athena has logged >500,000 miles, some in places where there is hardly any apple - A slow boat down Rua Amazona A wisely inexpensive DELL was DOA..... athena lives to regal tales of the adventures and companionship of the past trips.

You can buy a wise and inexpensive DELL/HP/Lenovo and leave the stupidly expensive Macbook at home.

Get a netbook for travel preferably with a solid state drive (mucho battery strength)..

Unfortunately I need a mac, I'm an illustrator and designer and will be using it to complete assignments!

Its not an option to take another computer, as the programs and software I use are all installed on my mac (and cost 1000's)

Thanks x

EDIT: Also, I have checked with apple and they dont do anything like that, which is a shame. They might get a lot of demand for it!

Insurers set premiums according to likely risk of total loss.

You have no existing policy covering the laptop, and presumably no 'history' with an insurer. You are going to a foreign high theft risk environment. You are seeking to cover a small, portable, expensive (and easily saleable), desirable item!!

I'd have thought you have very little chance of obtaining coverage.

There is a rumor that they are working on such...

But, a more immediate prospect is travel insurance with a valuable item rider..

in such situations... Id leave the mac hooked up to the interenet at home... hook up to it remotely over the internet... but then id never use it for graphics work...

My previous work place had restricted the use of the internet connectivity for personal use... I would leave my home system turned on and connected... Use our remote access software and check mail/browse forums from the office...
