I recently bought a HTC TyTN II Pdaphone with fancy gps navigation, but that ain't too much use in India (unless google maps is accurate in India)
Now that reminds me... Does anyone have experience with that? |

I just bought a Nokia N82 phone --- its got GPS. Brishti, you're way behind! And, although I've never used it for step-by-step voice-guided navigation (it does have it) the Chennai map is fairly detailed and it has got me unlost twice.
Monitors: I'd been thinking Samsung. But Viewsonic? No experience of them at all. I hate the name, it sounds really cheap and naff: are they good?

viewsonic is an upgrade on the samsung. got an ipod dock et al! is a good monitor - sharp images - high ncolour resolution - good value for money. just check out the price diff between that and a [groan] dell ultra sharp. :brishti [sigh] gps... one day - one day! zoe - the gps in india is dead on, have friends who navigate with it... then again, lots of india are not networked ![]() |

So viewsonic is better than Samsung? I'm glad I asked!
If you had 16,000-20,000 to spend, what would you buy? I'm not sure about wide-screen, either, as the hight is the same as smaller screen, and one reads top to bottom. |

second brishti on that one - the dell monitors are amazing value for money, and the view sonic come in close behind. Make sure you check out the response rate for the monitor - LCDs are a bit slower at responding to changes in graphics - but unless you're into design, games, or home video you would probably never notice the difference compared to CRT (for LCD should be less than 5 milliseconds I think).
OT - the most awesome collection of graphics machines I ever saw was a room full of SGI indies and O2s (about 40 machines in all). They were used for digital rendering. |

GPS navigation is for wimps. Get a poorly-detailed map, get lost, and then talk your way back to civilisation. That's LIVING!

That is one area in which I strictly adhere to the male stereotype! |

Tut! Tut! Nick.. I did the test in 'Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps' and it turns out I'm a man and can read maps! But GPS and gadgets - definitely another story there...

I have to admit that, although I enjoy the process of following my own nose until I get there, I do get directions sometimes, and yes, it is an awful lot easier if Mrs N asks --- although I sometimes understand the resultant 'neeraponga, rightaponga'
. If we are in a hurry. If not, it's called 'exploring' ![]() Quote:

its like having a calculator - but sometimes you choose to do mental maths...
you dont have to choose to find your way home all the time - just cause you have a gps. nothing is ever consistent across the board - is it? and yea dd, i know what the time is. back to configuring, so - over to you gents... :brishti |

And you mentioned "configuring". That makes your post not only a well-after-midnight post, it also makes it a tech post. ![]() There'll be no more jibes about my late night tech talk, I hope. ![]() |
