BB... it isn't an HD, it's a solid-state-storage machine!
Just wonder if it might not require particular drivers, on the manufacturer-supplied copy of the OS? Well, according to the link I found, the answer is no. But Brishti, make sure you have a CD from Dell that will allow you to put Vista back if need be. Small laptops make lousy doorstops.

I'm missing something here - the specs I saw on the dell site for the xps m1330 said it had anything from a 160-200gig SATA hard drive(HD) running at 5400 rpms? Is there a version with a solid state drive instead? cool..... that post by snowbro really is quite good - excellent step by step process - but yes, unless you have XP SP2 or change from SATA to IDE in the BIOS you wouldn't be able to load XP. sorry - not planning on travelling that way anytime soon (don't suppose your planning to make it to Delhi - perhaps experience one of our famous meetups)?
If you can get a techie to help - more's the better. Changing BIOS settings and operating systems is no small matter... good luck. ![]() |

Ahhh... so Brishti's has got an HD. Right.
I just took a quick look at one Dell page and saw 'no moving parts'. I don't even know how to access the BIOS settings on my PC! Just shows what an age it has been since I needed or wanted to do such a thing, and the initial screen goes by in a flash. Let's hope I continue not to need it ![]() |

Brishti - 'sparring partner' - yes, I'm out of it because that's when I sleep!
Reading all this makes me wonder - very simple question - re Vista etc. Better to stay with the tried and true for a while than launch out into much -hyped new stuff?

Yes, makes it hard if buying new gear - will XP be functional in the longterm or will it slowly wither away and we will all have to update ourselves?

XP will atleast be supported for the next 3 years.
Vista is, until ServicePack 2 is released, not advisable. It is still instable and the drivers for the most of the devices are not properly build yet for Vista. Last edited by Zoeperman : Mar 6th, 2008 at 17:46. Reason: forgot part of a sentence |
