Nice tries yourself, bb! U don't get away that easily by saying u didn't know what I was talking about!
You didn't know what DTH was - u asked. (Altho that surprised me, u not knowing).
U asked nothing about Hathway. But presumed u had it, therefore leaving no reason for us to believe differently either. I read your "in digital" remark the first time, I explained what it looked like in #273 above. U never made clear that it's a company's name, and no one else seems to have heard of it either. You HAVE been very round-about on this theme - thanks for backing me up, Prashant.

but I said way back in post 244 that the STB belonged to "in digital"
No, u didn't - u said
"the STB says "IN digital". So I'm presuming everything being transmitted down the wire is digital?"
Can mean anything, including what I derived. None of your fancy diplo-speak will get u off on this one.

Clearly u rate computers ahead of TV, mate. And TV ahead of women, no doubt.

And let's leave my shirt out of it, I already lost it in the 'Brits moving back to India' thread.

Goodness - that is rather strong! No I didn't get it, and still don't. Let me take a guess at this (if guessing is allowed). Comparing TVs to an appliance is a insult perhaps - and can be construed as an insult on the Television industry? Wow - I'll remember to stay out of conversation on anything to do with television?

yeah - believe it or not out of the 49 countries I've travelled to this is the first one that has used DTH to describe a cable service.

DTH is not cable. It's as it implies 'Direct', i.e. u have a satellite at home, from Dish TV or Tata Sky, unlike Hathway or In Digital.

Whoa! A bit testy, are we?

Truce! I think that somewhere all the joking got out of hand, what with not being able to see or hear the other person (body language).

DTH does mean the same as everywhere else. Direct To Home via satellite with no intermediaries (cable operators).
<later>oops cross posted with Dilliwala

It's that fist coming out of the screen that does it

Nick - great pic! I have never laughed so much as when I first saw it and your comment! Okay guys, all gloves off says 'She who must be obeyed!' Nick will understand that comment! I'm learning more initials all the time - DTH, STB, now added to my meagre technical vocabulary, thanks to you fellows...

Well, a hysterectomy, for any species, is no small thing, and I suspect there's a lot more scar and several stitches underneath that bandage, which is coming off tomorrow.

She seems to have been in very little discomfort, actually, and only started interfering with the sellotape bandage when one end started coming off and flapping about.

The story can be followed by cat lovers here

surgery of any kind for anyone is no small thing! But I would hazard to guess that cats can take that sort of difficulty in their stride. Must say - they look very settled.

As long as they can be prevented from pulling out the stitches in the first few days, they do mend very quickly.

Closer to the topic --- my wife saw on the TV yesterday evening that BSNL staff plan an indefinite strike in a few days time, possibly disrupting the internet connections of tens of thousands of broadband (and maybe far, far more dial-up) users, including me.

Oh dear, thanks for the warning - I'll look out for it if it happens and I still have my GPRS Airtel valid and working for these sorts of events! Glad you posted this Nick! Good to have a Storm Warner here!!

Well, just after I posted this, the connection did go off! So I'm wondering whether it's started already? Doing this now on GPRS and, oh dear, I'd forgotten how slow it is..

It was off for around 4 - 5 hours then came back late afternoon - not the strike I think! I shouldn't panic - it happened when I was on the invertor and i was thinking those square waves had something to do with it. However, because all lights were functional, just the orange DSL one blinking, I figured if those waves were affecting it, no lights would be on!
