Question choice of an internet provider

After a first look to the internet connection price, it seems that if i want an unlimited connection at at least 512 kb, it is really expensive!! a lot more than in european countries!

i only found zeenext, which use the cable, which seems to be unlimited and with a really high speed(27 mb!!!!!!?!!?!! ) for something like 1500 rs per month.

am i wrong or is it the only good opportunity to be connected at a high speed without transfert amount limitations?

IMHO, broad band in India is pretty much useless as the congestion between India and the rest of the world is the bottleneck. In other words, broadband might improve your response time with local Indian servers, but will not do much help when you access servers outside India.

We had Hathway.com's cable 256k service while in Delhi. It wasn't too bad and was reasonably priced at about Rs650/month.

Oh dear... I was really hoping for BBC Radio 4 and Radio 7 as internet streaming audio to help while away my lazy moments. And I'm very lazy

We streamed in several different radio stations without issue on our 256k connection.

The worst thing is that the amount of data transfered seems to be limited per month!

what about internet by cable(like zeeaccess)? does anyone test it, or have informations about it.?

magi: Established operators like Dishnet, Sify etc will charge you lot of money for a high speed connection. In India, if u get a steady connection - u shuld be happy with that. This wuld be enuf for web surfing...at best u can use a webcam over yahoo to talk with ur frnds....even net telephony. Dont expect that T1 expeirence ...even if they promise u, u will be disappointed later on.

Since u will be working here, I suggest u use ur company internet connection for personal use unless they are any strict restrictions. In India, most people use their office connectivity to chk personal emails. Some office, ofcourse ban site like yahoo/ hotmail.

Having said that, check with you local cable TV operator. Though this is not organized nor legal, cable TV operators operating in your locality might be giving net connectivity. A 256kbps line, unlimited usage (no download limit) 24hrs a day culd cost u flat 1000 rs....if u access only at nite - u pay 500.

Look at these Hathway prices! Horrific: a 512 connection would be costing more than my rent. What are these people doing? trying to create a niche market for the rich?

Silver Express ...512 speed...6 GB limit... 7000 month... 70000 year

Their price list here

i didnt understand the halfway offer, which is horrific on on epage, and interesting on the last link you gave.. but this one is suspicious..

i will have internet when i ll work, but my girlfriend ll'not and a high speed connection is really useful to stay in contact with familys and friends, and for listening radio or exchanging datas. it ll be a big lack for us .

i think i ll focus on zee offer, and ll choose my apartment so that it would in the aera covered by zee... it s my only solution...
