Hi, all of a sudden my canon powershot A75 decided to display AND capture blurred/distorted (almost as if it's been magnetized)images!
Things I have checked: 1. batteries - are ok 2. LCD -seems ok to view "old" photos off the memory card 3. took the camera to a local digi photo place, & the guy wants me to go to an authorized canon dealer. Have you experienced this? I'm currently in Mumbai, but only for a few more days..then off travelling south, so I'm praying that it's not a big problem. Don't have a clue how long it will take to recover the camera. I've taken over 1000 photos within (1 1/2) years, so I feel quite attached to it now...perhaps overusage does this?? Please advise/help!!

could be a focus problem. could you attach a blured image pls? can be useful. first of all check if the camere is NOT in manual focus mode. Also try a manual focus , see if result in sharp images. Also let me know if the LCD image is also blured too (optical problem, maybe sensor ) or LCD looks sharp image and only the picture is blured (this would be very weird, probably software issu. in this case it could be possible a firmware upgrade/restore procedure)

Hi Soki!
Thanks for the quick response!! Here are some stats of the latest photo (computer monitor and doorway) I took: File Name IMG_3578.JPG Camera Model Name Canon PowerShot A75 Shooting Date/Time 6/6/2006 1:23:03 AM Shooting Mode Auto Photo Effect Off Tv (Shutter Speed) 1/60 Av (Aperture Value) 2.8 Light Metering Evaluative Exposure Compensation 0 ISO Speed Auto Lens 5.4 - 16.2 mm Focal Length 5.4 mm Digital Zoom None Image Size 1600x1200 Image Quality Fine Flash On Flash Type Built-In Flash Flash Exposure Compensation 0 Red-eye Off Shutter curtain sync 1st-curtain White Balance Auto AF Mode Single AF Color Space sRGB File Size 397 KB (i had to condense this to upload it to IM) File No. 135-3578 Drive Mode Single-frame shooting Owner's Name Here's the image: I have tried the manual - it's "M" setting right on the camera?! No changes in image. The image shown in the LCD as well as the image captured are both distorted and blurred. |

looks like the camera is moving within the time of exposure.this is not because the setting. as far as \i can see you ae in Tv mode with 1/60 s. also magenta coloured image looks strange. all your pictures are in the same magenta colour ? No M mode is not the manual focus. for manual focus you should press MF buton until Mf apears on screen. then modify focus by presing < or >. From the picture attached I would say it's not the case.
1. try reseting camera to defalts. I think this procedure is like: -turn the camera on in shooting mode -press menu button for longer then 5 seconds until you'll get a reset warning on lcd. you shoud move on OK then press Set buton. reset is performed. -after reset it goes to the normal screen. snap one picture and see if it works. I'm affraid it will not work. It looks like the shooter mechanism is not really working like it is set (1/60 ). Also you can try using faster speed ...like 1/250...or move to A mode and try an outdoor snap. not to many chanses...but give them a try! |

Thanks again for the responses!
I tried the manual - still the same results! I tried the default (reset) - still the same result Yes, all of the pics are magenta I've tried outdoors, different modes...all the same result! ;( One guy told me that it could be the display strip...have you heard of that going bad? I called the "main" canon place here in mumbai by vt station to check if they have the part, cost, time, etc.. i'll have to check it out in b'lore next week...'cuz they don't have the part, and i'll have to wait at least a week!..this is all..assuming the malfunctioning display strip is the reason why my images are capturing this way. any other advise? missing my camera ![]() |

Dumb but obvious question: did you try using a different memory card?

Came back to town today..
New development - now the screen is completely "black"..i don't get blurred, distorted...nor am I able to capture ANY image! sigh! Thanks for the encouragement Soki! I hope they will resolve it too. Abracax - it's not dumb..i tried that a while ago. I tried practically everything from changing batteries to manual focus as suggested by Soki to different photo settings. I'm able to view "old" captured photos from memory card. I just can't capture any more! I think the problem seems to be software/hardware communication related. |

Looks like you're just left with the old authorized service/dealer option. Best case scenario would be they replace the firmware and it starts working again (digital cameras can be zapped by magnets, heat, etc.).

Thanks for all your help, everyone!!
Thanks Arunchs! I did go to the place here in Indira nagar. Guess what the prob is?! (hopefully it is the ONLY problem)..it's a manufacturing defect! Canon has recalled all its cameras, which have the Sony CCD (sp?). The technician immediately pointed to this problem, and told me that he has been shipping at least (5) cameras a DAY from his shop to N.Delhi's Canon HQ. The bad news about all this is that I don't get my camera for another (30) days. Have to figure out what to do in the meantime without a camera. The good news is that I don't pay ANYTHING! ...well maybe the courier charges in case I want it shipped to wherever I may be at that time instead! |

well..here in Pune..finally got my camera back (courier'd) by Deen Dayal..great rush service once fixed..although it took (30) days (many cameras were getting the same)!! The camera (at it's first trial) looks ok. They replaced the malfunctioning Sony CCD chip.
Very very excited!! ![]() THANKS A LOT to you ALL for the suggestions & help! Deen Dayal/Canon representatives were right on the mark. |

Congratulations
![]() I like it when a manufacturer goes public about a fault and offers a free fix, especially after 18 months. Hats off to Canon for this ![]()
