BSNL GPRS settings to connect?
I am having a difficult time trying to get my phone to 'work' with BSNL GPRS. I had to change the Samsung because it wouldn't support the BSNL SIM card and upgraded to Bleu. I have GPRS working - symbol on tower on front of phone but don't seem to get any connection to internet. I followed the GPRS settings on their page on internet - did everything but to no avail. What is confusing is that they are giving 2 addresses for APN - in the paragraph above they say www.n.po and then in the directions to activate GPRS, it is www.e.po I have been puttin g in the last.
If anyone has succeeded with their settings could you clearly put all the steps here! The phone shop people didn't know what to do - I may have to go to BSNL local office, Customer Care they never answer the phone - local office not much good with English...After reading Dr G's post maybe I switch to Airtel! ![]() |

You say you followed the GPRS link on their website. The one at the bottom of this page?... http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/mobile_gprswap.htm
What should happen when you press that button (and give details) is they should send your phone a 'service' message. It will come in like a txt message, but your phone will use it to store settings. Did you receive the service message? It should come very quickly.

Airtel GPRS is working fine for me. no issues
Check with BSNL customer care if your are registered for GPRS or not. What i mean is that at their end your a/c should show GPRS activated.

Ba9rn -No it wasn't that one - it came under heading 'User's guide to GPRS &MMS Services of BSNL" - I sent GPRSPRE and got back message saying 'GPRS already provisioned" but when I try to use it I keep getting 'Data Connection Failed". Also when I went into settings and did everything as outlined by this page - there was no BSNL_GPRS account in my phone and no settings like these ones. Just thinking maybe for APN I should have www.n.po for north area? Rajasthan? or is it 'w'? I have the signal on my desktop of phone (G) and it runs when I browse but no result.
The other thought is - I changed phones - I also got a message with two lots of long numbers from them and that was all but this was when I had the Samsung - the SIM card is now in the new one. Would this have had some effect? |

Yes, the GPRS account settings have to be in the new phone. Either do it manually, or (easier) get a service message sent from BSNL. You could either press the button I described before, or telephone them.

Thank you ba9rn - I will try the latter (service message) easier than trying manually I think or telephoning - I waited 2x for more than 20 mins. previously. It is a pain in the neck!

Further to this saga - got nowhere by sending message by SMS, went to local Customer Care Centre - no one there. Came home, rang CCC, and now finally have my GPRS connected and working although it times out and I still haven't got on to the web... Still, the settings are now correct. The problem was changing the instrument. A very difficult conversation with 4 operators as they searched for a better English speaking one (my Hindi not good enough)40 mins. on the phone and the settings were given and I did. The settings vary from area to area and the ones I have are for Rajasthan. So if anyone has problems with Rajasthan connection to BSNL GPRS they can contact me and I think it will be faster than trying the Customer Care Centre!

Update to Thread
Well, now August 11th and FINALLY I am able to connect to internet via GPRS! A long saga - I was never able to open a window in my telephone even with the correct settings with BSNL.
I did nothing until about 10 days back when i switched to Airtel. This involved 10 days of frustration between phone shop and Airtel to finally get correct settings etc. from Jaipur. The phone is not an easy one to connect - Bleu - should have got Nokia! Finally got them, then using the supplied CD with phone, downloaded that, then put settings into profile from CD, then finally on Day 10 late at night internet appeared on my laptop via my mobile!! My advice - buy a phone that is easy to connect! Make sure you can get the settings easily as well. I must say the Airtel Customer Care, Jaisalmer is much better than BSNL, whilst it took time, they worked with many phone calls to jaipur to get the correct ones. BSNL wouldn't do that for me here as you can read in a previous post. Depending on where you are located you need to check which phone company is giving the best GPRS service for your area. The speed is slightly slower than dial up depending on time of day - early morning about the same as, or slightly faster than dial-up. However, the benefit is I can now stay on-line without tying up our single phone line.
