we were going to ship to India from home as well. Decided to buy local - and not a problem. We brought a 7kg front loader with its own heater - more washing programmes on it then you can shake a stick at. The deciding factor for us was local support. If this thing breaks down there is an agent in Delhi - whereas the machine we wanted to bring isn't even sold in India (let alone getting it fixed). Washing clothes is one of those things you can't go without for more than a couple of days - then its time to take the clothes pegs off the line and stick them on your nose!

Totally agree, brownboy! Is Whirlpool available here - not out our way. LG, Samsung, Videocon, all reliable brands for India.. maybe others know more, this is just off the top of my head. And the main thing is you won't waste time getting it up and running!

Don't know what the situation is with washing machines and dryers - but sometimes local agents are reluctant to service imports they haven't sold, even if they sell the same brand. I know that can be the case with things like laptop, PCs, TVs, etc.
