Batteries for digital cameras In Mumbai: How easy to find? How expensive?

Thanks to “Mike” for running such an interesting site, and thanks to all of you for making it so interesting!

My question, I am heading for India in a few weeks and know one battery for my didgicam will not be enough (Camera: Sony DCS H-9 / Battery: “Sony G-Type, Lithium Ion NP-BG1”). The problem: those little devils are quite expensive in South Africa (about 2400 Rupies). Can I buy them cheaper in Mumbai? Can you recommend a shop?

Thanks a million!
Niko

There are specialist Sony dealers in Mumbai who should be able to help (one I know of is on Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai).

There's also large new chain type electronics stores .... Croma, Reliance Digital, Sony Money, Vijay .... they also sell Sony accessories.

For the adventurous there's electronics bazaars in South Mumbai that seel all sorts.

As for prices - anything imported attracts extra tax - so similar price to Europe, more than US or Hong Kong but possibly less than SA?

Cheaply [relatively] available at all the camera shops in the area known as Central Camera on and just off DN Rd in Fort nr the erstwhile Handloom House. Ask anyone for Central Camera, there is a camera shop Vartak on the main DN Rd [left if coming from VT], dont buy there but walk to the small lane very close by and check rates at all the stores in the lane. Check the battery before you buy.

Otherwise, try Lamington Rd nr Grant Rd station but believe me for batteries, DN Rd is good enough. The battery for the H-9 was around INR 2000 when I last enquired about 8 months ago, may be a little cheaper now. I have an H-9 too.
