American Electronics in India
Want to know if the American home theater system, DVD players would work in India.
I was wondering if NTSC or Pal system still a problem. Should I buy a voltage converter for my digital cam? It might sound silly but my general knowledge about “electronics from USA in India” is too bad. I am leaving in June so it is “gift shopping season”.

Some DVD Players such as the CyberHome one that I got for my Mom works on both US and India power supply. PAL and NTSC.I bought it in RadioShack for about $40. I'm sure there are several other brands that do the same.
I don't know about home theater systems, I guess you should be able to buy something similar. It's probably a good idea to buy the TV in India instead of lugging it all the way.
About the digital cam, I suppose you are talking about the charger for the batteries. If your camera takes AAA or AA bats its a big plus. You can also carry a Car Adapter , I'm assuming here that you would be taking 1-2 hour car rides every few days (!), that plugs into the cigarrette lighter socket in cars and converts the 12v power to US power. Buy a rapid charger and a bunch of rechargeable batteries (double or triple the amount your camera needs so you never run out) and you're good to go! If your camera takes a specific battery and has it's own charger that'll work too. I've posted this elsewhere also, I took home power converters from here and they just burnt out. Luckily I had the car adapter to keep things going. In my opinion that car adapter thing one of the best accesories I ever bought. We use it even here back in the States on road trips. Just think about it the possibilities are endless
You can also look in the "customs-notified-shops" once you are there for power adapters, rechargeable batteries etc. Just ask the storekeeper and they usually come up with a solution.

Thanks for the reply; I want to take music system with CD/DVd player (no TV) with good speaker. You gave me good suggestions; I was going through other thread Storing pictures on your trip. Got plenty of answers for storing the photo but you can understand (being indian - gift related) my situation.
I don't want to bring my gifts back
I am traveling most of the time in Trains (mumbai, chennai, rameshwram, mad urai,KK,B;lore,Agra, jaipur, del hi) Hope to find better options for photos but my nikon has it's own batteries so will have to find the solutions.
Check to see if the Nikon's charger is dual voltage (110-220) -- if so, all that will be required is a simple blade-to-pins adapter which are widely available for 15 or so rupees. If it is 110 only, then you will need a converter -- you can get a low-capacity one that is quite compact for less than $10 at Wal-Mart and places like that.
It would be much better to bring appliances that are dual voltage as using converters not a great long-term solution for household appliances. Some require that you manually flip a switch from 110 to 220 before plugging in, while other items (like most laptops) are auto-detect.
