Airtel gprs settlings for data card
Airtel gprs settlings for data card
Bought a prepaid airtel simcard in Dharamsala for my sierra wireless aircard and had the airtel rep activate gprs. trying to set up the connection on the aircard - can anyone share the configuaration settings pls? APN, user name, pw, gateway, dns???
many thanks
many thanks
on my sierra wireless aircard's "Watcher" software, it says 'gprs unavailable'. would this be because my gprs activation hasn't activated yet (the gprs internet card says activation can take 48 working hours) or is this because gprs is not available in mcleod ganj where i am?

You may have an indicator ("G" or "E") on the phone display to indicate that you have the potential to connect. It does take some time for the activation to occur and if you complain you will be told that the period of time required excludes weekends.
Finally connected w/ Air Tel pre-paid gprs on Sierra Wireless 775
After 10 phone calls to Air Tel tech support and 2 trips to the lower Dharamsala Air Tel office, I've finally got my pre-paid gprs (MO: mobile office) connection working. If anyone needs config settings for the Sierra Wireless 775, reply here and I will post them.

nomadspike - can you send all settings to me by PM? If my BSNL GPRS doesn't work in Mussoorie in a couple of weeks time when I reach there I am going to get an Airtel SIM for it. It is not working at all well here in Jaisalmer and everyone tells me Airtel would have been better - however BSNL Rajasthan seem to be doing a lot of work on network etc. and maybe in a few weeks time it will improve. Like you I had a lot of run around to get the settings right because i changed the handpiece after they had been sent to my previous one which wouldn't support BSNL Sim card for telephone use. Always going down Limited Service... The new phone is a Bleu, seems much better than the Samsung. GPRS is now connecting, then sending, then timing out after 3 mins. How long is it taking for you to connect to a website? Should I set the timer longer? 3 mins. seems an awfully long time to get there... Would much appreciate your reply!!
Mussoorie is in Uttaranchal and maybe the settings might be slightly different, I am not sure - still, yours could be handy just the same because I think the phone coys. divide up into areas - north, south, east, west e.g. Rajasthan comes into north area.

Thanks for reply, Dr G. There is definitely something not right with my BSNL GPRS, isn't there? I am off travelling in 6 days so won't do anything here until I come back, in the meanwhile will check how it works as i go. Will switch to Airtel for the time I am in Mussoorie if it doesn't work there.
Then when I come back home get a new SIM with Airtel if no improvement... This is one long saga!!!

airtel settings for gprs
I am using a datacard (Sierra Wireless Aircard 775) which is different than using a telephone/handset, but it might come in handy.
my settings in Dial Up Networking:
user name: blank
password: blank or your telephone number
gpn/domain: airtelgprs.com
phone number: *99***#
at first when i used these settings i 'connected'(very slow sending/receiving of packets) but could not access any websites or send/receive email using outlook. when i went into my connection settings, there was an option to use dialup if LAN was unavailable and once i checked this, i was able to access all sites and email.

Thanks Nomadspike - may not be relevant as you say since I am using mobile telephone. I am presently in the position you describe when you first started - I connect then send then nothing.. I looked to see if there is such an option you describe in my connection settings but no. I think I will ring Customer Service again tomorrow.
Aishah, try this:
on your laptop, open up your connection for BSNL, and click on Properties. In the tabs at the top, click Networking. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and go to Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP automatically is checked (both places) and go to Advanced. Check use default gateway on remote network. I think that was what worked for me...

thanks for reply nomadspike but I haven't even got to the stage of connecting to computer - I thought if it doesn't connect in the phone itself then it won't in computer? All my setting etc are correct in the phone as far as I know - it connects then runs sending, then times out after 3 mins. or shows network down.
I have saved your reply for the future when I come back from my hols. Am leaving in 5 days for 6 weeks away and have decided not to take laptop, just the phone. If I am not getting via the phone, if I connect to laptop is it going to make any difference?
I am a total novice in this field and have no idea.

Not sure either but if you have the time it wouldn't hurt to connect your phone to your computer with a dongle and try setting it up that way. Make a new dial up connection on your computer using the phone as a modem and follow my instructions. Good luck!!
