oh yeah.....almost had to do self induced CPR when I saw the bill. Overkill for what we need really, but now that I've got it I aint giving it back! The current plan is two fold:

1) add two more machines and then set up one of the old PCs as a proxy. The idea is to set up a mini internet cafe for the family, with everyone in the one room when they want to use the PCs (and of course, makes it easier to monitor/ control access/ keep out nasties/ etc). Also ensures the kids don't end up hibernating in their rooms.

2) add wireless IP services. This will include motion sensing wireless IP cameras for security linked via wifi to a PDA - all routed via a common access point (all encrypted and locked down of course). Which reminds me - must remember to tell the neighbour his fully open wifi network works quite well but he really needs to encrypt it, and put a password on his server to prevent access to his business applications....

He has to have some way of delivering tea to the PC users!

I'd love to have wireless cameras so that I can watch the garden... not just for security, but also for the wildlife.

But I think remote-controlled weather-proof stuff is expensive .

Hmmm... maybe I could build sparrowcam!

that would be the remote control monster truck! You can fit a whole dinner plate on it.....(possibly I'm giving a little too much information away on my personality)

I've got a cheapie camera currently hooked up to take video of the squirrels on the fence. Don't think its fast enough though (they must have the metabolism of a humming bird)!

Not as expensive as you might think. Can't remember the brand, but its called a bulldog cam. Made for the outdoors, IR lighting (for full nightime illumination), wireless, needs mains power. Less than $80 US.
