Because DST (Daylight Saving Time) had been turned to ON - Dilliwalla. It now shows correct IST time after the tips here on this post - I followed Anders and Nick's suggestions and got it right!(Not straight away - 1st I switched to Kabul figuring if my time is so much ahead then this would be about right. WRONG! Way out!) Then I re-read the posts. Then went back and did all the right stuff...
Nick H - Phew! Glad it's for Programmers... I don't think I could do anything like this! Thanks for help. And yes, it's only on IM. Still there this morning but Nadreg is probably still asleep..I just click CANCEL and then all running O.K.
Congrats bb for your connection back.. India very frustrating. yesterday, usual power cuts then power back with much higher voltage, my a/c box not working - I think switch burned out - tried later, it's back to normal.. Back to MTNL Fraudband - another friend I have in Delhi also has hers going out from time to time.. It's to be expected apparently. Make a dial-up on your telephone line, it's better than mobile, better than nothing!

I'd be surprised if Windows can work out if a country has DST or not, or what dates are applicable --- but I don't know if this info is available from time servers.

What gives?
oooo....that's weird. So IM is set to IST, so when you're logged on - it gives you the correct time. When you log out - its as if some other time reference takes over (your PCs clock)and shows that time on the browser - or at least that's what it sounds like???

And even if Aishah's DST setting was 'On' why the hell wud it change her clock if she had IST selected? Unless the software isn't smart enuff to realise India has no DST.
As nick said - windows should be able to handle that no problem. Even before the advent of time servers - windows would automatically adjust for daylight saving, but only in those countries that had it. For non-DST countries, no changes should have occurred. This was the case going right back to windows 3.1 if I remember correctly.

Your right, the server is off by 1h when you are logged off.
Don't log off

if you go into time settings and change it to a region that has DST (like NZ) - the DST option should pop up....

Ahhh... So for IST it should not be there.

Cleverer than I expect, from MS!

But why, I wonder, does my internet time check always fail? It used to work.

More security hints for public machines...

as well as clearing the coockies...

Clear the Internet Temporary files.

Clear the browser history.

Empty the recycle bin (especially if you have composed and printed out a letter or something).

Reboot the machine.

Many of the better places will severely restrict what customers can do, so you may be denied access to some functions.

Some might not even allow you to shutdown or reboot --- but there is no way they can stop you hitting the off button! Hint... if it appears to do nothing, hold it down for five seconds... that, instead of doing a software shutdown does a straight power off.

Everything went back to normal.
It may be happening because you have Javascript debugging enabled. Do you know how to check this on your browser?

He was actually saying the opposite, but u know that by now.

Live and learn, eh? U need to spend more time away from this website and playing with your PC settings a bit. This feature has been avbl since Win98, maybe even Win95.
Yeah, the time sync doesn't work, might be an XP-related thing. U know MS, give something new with one hand, take away something old with the other.

Yes, IM is set to IST, for ME (when I'm signed in of course!) - becos that's what I chose in IM's User control panel ->Options. This is not IM's default time, u can choose NZ time in yours and that's what it will show u - when u're LOGGED IN! Yes, another time reference takes over when I log out, but it's not from my PC clock, which is set correctly, plus/minus a minute or 2.

That's a work-around, not the answer to why it shud be happening at all.

Folks, in case no one's noticed, it's Myanmar Std. Time that takes over at log-out! Not IST as claimed. I wudn't be surprised if nadreg drops by saying I've uncovered another bug. Fat lot of good that will do me, I'm STILL waiting for a t-shirt from the last time around!

......, if that's the setting chosen in Windows-->Power Options. Set it to "Do nothing" and that's exactly what it will do - nothing.
