Pakistan played an excellent game to beat NZ, and India had a cracker against Australia. The two best teams are in the final and the game should be brilliant.

Not that Dilli, Nick, or I care of course......

Sorry - what was the question about the time thing?

Indeed there are more important things... but that does not stop any of us making a fuss when shortchanged.

It is an issue, that I will keep going on about, although there is very little point in doing it here, and even at www.vinuthomas.com we are mostly just complaining to each other. However, consumer pressure may have helped in in the introduction of an unlimited-data tariff, and may, in the end, help in getting pricing and data speeds more on a line with the rest of the world (even our tiny neighbour, Sri Lanka).

I'm not at all sure that computers and internet connections are going to save the world! water; sewage schemes; dealing with corruption; stemming domestic violence (Only yesterday I was shocked to read that here, within marriage, there is no such thing as rape. No doubt another inheritance of British rule, where, until only a few decades ago, a wife's body was considered her husband's property, so he did not require her consent to sex).

Don't worry, Dilliwala: there are many, many things that I can, and do, go on about far more often and with greater passion that broadband connections.

But while the rest of the world is considering (rightly or wrongly) that internet access for the masses is a good and desirable thing, and many countries act accordingly, India has chosen the route of expensive broadband, parcelled out in small and profitable helpings, and not even the private sector is moving to break that comfortable cartel.

The end of 'net neutrality' (the concept that it is all data; whatever it is, web page, moveie, IP phone call, file transfer or what) will be a dngerous thing in this environment too. Goggle search, Sir? That will 17 paise; we can do Yahoo for 15. IndiaMike browsing? that'll be 8 paise per page, please --- and so on. This may not be fiction for long.

Some disturbing thoughts here Nick - and I agree there are far more important things than speed of internet connections etc. to fix up in the world. Food and water for all would be top of my list, health and hygiene of equal rating as well..
Back to techie stuff - now when I open IM I get a message saying "A runtime error has occured. Do you wish to Debug. Line:66 Error: Object expected."
I went with Debug but it seemed to do nothing much so cancelled. Now I cancel everytime it comes on whenever I log in. Any clues about this??
The time question - Every post has a time of posting in top left corner. I notice the time is one hour ahead of time here - I am wondering which time we are following?? It has to be somewhere further to the east, Chennai perhaps??

OT - Oh dear, my predictions completely flopped - flop is a word much used here for something failing. India v Pakistan should be a treat to watch!

The time displayed is whatever you have set in the options. Go to "quick links->edit options" to change it.

That is very odd. Please let us know your Operating System (Windows?) version, what browser you are using and what version of it.

India has one time zone, IST, only, so my time is the same as yours. The default time zone of the site has been changed to IST, as we have so many Indian members --- but you can set your own: it is somewhere in User Control Panel. Make sure Daylight Saving Time is not ticked. If you need better instructions on this, let me know and I'll check out the detail and pass it on.

Also check that your PC is set to the correct time zone, IST, GMT+5.30. Again, uncheck DST. That's in control Panel, Date and Time Setings I *think*

<all crossposted with Anders, who has has sorted you out already... >

My os is Windows XP - fully updated. This is a test run to check the time - I had it in IST but noticed that Daylight Saving Time was turned on. Have now turned it off so will see if I have the right time now. I don't think I have ever been to that area before so must have been pre-set when I joined? The other thing that is odd is this box of A Runtime Error has Occured ... I am now on dial-up but it came up when the GPRS was extremely slow in my reply to Anders. Maybe it comes when all too slow???

Ha ha! it is now correct! It was the DST problem - Dilliwalla, kindly note my increasing use of initials, abbreviations etc!!

Almost like a pro!

What we need to know is if it is an IndiaMike problem, with the runtime error. Does it only occur with this site?

You didn't mention your browser, I don't think? MS Internet explorer? Version?

It is MS Internet Explorer - I have just recently done an update when I put on mobile stuff and MSN Messenger - don't know if this would have the effect.. It is only when I open IM - and if I click Cancel, everything goes as normal. Should I do the Debug? Or will it make matters worse? What happened when I clicked Debug is that a whole lot of IM script like you write for computers came onto my page and no sort of sign of 'You are debugging now" - I got fed up waiting for whatever was going to happen and clicked cancel. Everything went back to normal.

Debug is for programmers.

I'll drop a line to Nadreg to have a look at your problem.

Update...

our phones are back! I have broadband (will...ok...not really as its only 256k - but its faster than mobile dial up)!. Turned out our whole suburb was down for 2 days. The very nice MTNL man paid a personal visit just to make sure everything was working ok.

In Windows, the DST setting for non-DST zones get corrected/disabled automatically when u select them.

Maybe this is related, maybe not - when I'm signed in to IM my time-zone displays correctly (IST). When I'm signed out, it shows IST + 1. Post #44, was at 1.49 am today, when signed out of IM it shows as 2.49 am. This was the case with my previous DST setting (Automatically detect); it's the case with my present DST setting (Off). What gives?
And even if Aishah's DST setting was 'On' why the hell wud it change her clock if she had IST selected? Unless the software isn't smart enuff to realise India has no DST.
