Weather related delays ?
I have heard a lot about fog related delays into/out of DEL during winter months. I also know about international flight craziness during peak monsoon season in BOM.
Two questions: Is there a place /site where I can get some sort of statistical data on delays/cancellations by Airline/month ? Give the risks, what options do passengers have if their only flight of the day for a city pair (say BOM-DEL) is cancelled ? rebooked/endorsed to another airline ? etc... |

No one can give any data...and options are not calculable..they will really depend on the day/airline etc..
just remember one thing..more often than not when Delhi goes out gear then Mumbai goes too..and vice versa.. |

Are the airlines not required to file and/or report monthly arrival/departure statistics to an indian ministry regulating the industry ? or AAI ? just curious...

I suppose you might find something at http://www.airportsindia.org.in/ (open during business hours) or maybe http://www.imd.gov.in/ , but, yes, remember there are no guarantees. Traveling there, in case of delays I'd mostly just think "Well, this is India," which may be a helpful approach. Takes some flexibility though, and I never did domestic flying.

You can check the airline's flight status page a few days before your flight to know if the flights are being delayed. You can combine this info with local Delhi weather info from 'Yahoo Weather' or 'Wunderground' and have your own statistics. Almost all domestic Indian airlines have an online real-time flight status reporting system.
Hope that helps.
