visa debit cards, not credit cards, for Spicejet etc
Hi
Does Spicejet and the others allow booking with UK Visa DEBIT cards? Or when they say credit cards do they strictly mean that? I don't have any credit cards. I'm looking for Mumbai-Goa. Arriving Mumbai Saturday, want to fly Monday. Maybe I should just do it when I'm there? Either on arrival at the airport or from an agent in Colaba (with the fee). Any thoughts? Thanks Paul |

What debit card are u planning to use?
Visa should generally work as long as it is Visa Electron. 'Solo' wouldnt work for sure. If you face any issues, Just call the helpline number for spicejet and book it over the phone. May cost you a couple of pounds for the phone call but its worth every penny if you cant book online. |

I have booked with Visa Debit (not Electron) in the past on Spicejet. Just obviously make sure you have enough funds on the account, and the billing address matches.
"Electron" and the UK only "Solo" are base level rival services run by Visa and Mastercard respectively. Neither of these have worked in India for me, but then again things change all the time. If anything Electron is quite likely to be working now, but its been a while since I tried. The Mastercard equivalent of Visa Debit is called Maestro, which again works quite happily in India. I think several Indian bank account holders are now given Maestro cards as standard. |

I don't understand what they meant. Visas and Mastercards can be both credit or debit, still they are the same pieces of plastic. There are also Electron-type cards, where names and data are not embossed, which means they can't be accepted by mechanical device and only processed electronically on an electronic terminal. In India I found that embossed cards are more versatile, as many places do not have an electronic device needed to process Electrons and Maestros. So, to be on a safer side, get yourself a proper Visa Classic or MasterCard Mass (and of course, you can also get Gold cards or even Platinum cards - from processing standpoint, they work the same). Hope this helped.
Usually when a retail outlet says 'we accept credit cards' that means they accept all cards, at least Classics and Mass that are embossed. |
