Unable to get on flight - urgent help!

I didn't know I required a visa and now I have missed my flight to India

I have to cancel the whole trip but now, my concern is, I already booked 4 sets of train tickets and it has already been delivered to my hotel waiting for my arrival.

How do I cancel the tickets?

My first set of train tickets leaves 31st Oct 7pm.

Wow, what a bummer....I guess you've only today, joined IndiaMike, otherwise you'd have known that no one can get into India without a visa! Very sorry for your troubles.

I guess the only way you can cancel the already delivered train tickets is by telephoning perhaps? Don't seem to me that you can do it any other way at this very late stage - you'll probably end up paying for your hotel, tickets, the lot.....can't for the life of me understand how you got this far and not realising you had to have a visa - or that no one else told you! It's going to turn out to be a very exensive wasted booking I guess, I'm really feeling for you friend.

I'm still counting my losses

the tickets I have are i-tickets and not able to cancel online. I read from the IRCTC website that to cancel, the tickets need to be canceled at Computerised Reservations counters ?

Does anyone know if there is any of such counters in Calcutta near Sudder street (my hotel) so that I can ask the receptionist to cancel them for me ?

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm so sad....I planned this trip for months and to be unable to go at the very last moment at the airport when they tell me I need a stupid document.

The Foreigners' Booking Office is on Fairlie Place, 20 minutes' walk from Sudder Street; your hotel may charge you to have someone go over there to cancel these tickets, as there can be fairly substantial numbers of people waiting on line to carry out their business in this office.

But I thought these are computerised systems? Is it fully automated?

And if they charge me, how am I supposed to give them the money?

Well, you know, I've never tried to get a refund for a ticket while in India. let alone from abroad, so all I did was reply to your question about where the booking office is located.

It can take a lot of time to do any sort of business in India, so you may have to pay for the service -- credit cards come to mind. The hotel has already done you a service by receiving your rail tickets; now you are cancelling the room AND you want the receptionist to take time to cancel the tickets. What hotel had you booked? Do you think they will do everything for you without charge?

(How do you expect to get your money back, anyway? You already paid for the tickets, didn't you?)

You can cancel tickets in any computerised reservation office such as the one wwusa mentioned.
I hope for your sake that this is doable by a third party otherwise your screwed!!
Ask the hotel if they would mind doing this but you will I'm sure have to reimburse them for their trouble!!
