Time to connect between international and domestic airport in Mumbai?
Hi,
We will be arriving in Mumbai at 11.00, with Kingfisher. We want to then fly to Goa. How long should we leave to get between airports? There is a Kingfisher which leaves at 14.40, or a Spicejet which leaves at 16.25. We have two kids, so would rather not have too long to wait, but also do not want to be stressed or rushing. If we went with Kingfisher, would it be possible for our baggage to go all the way, or do we need to collect it when we arrive, and take it ourselves to the domestic airport? (If we could avoid that, it would be great.) Thanks. |

Mumbai would be your first port of entry into India. You would have to collect baggage and get it past Customs.
14.40 flight should be good enough. You can find Kingfisher staff at the international airport they will guide you in case you get late by any chance. |

14.40 will be all right. But if your flight from London is delayed it will be a bit of hassle,I vote for the 16.25 Flt

Baggage question
Thanks for the comments - both different, so hopefully there will be more opinions!
I was not very clear with my question about baggage: As we are flying wth Kingfisher from the UK, if we also went with Kingfisher from Mumbai to Goa, would we need to collect our baggage at Mumbai, and then check it in again at the domestic terminal? Or would Kingfisher transfer it for us? It would certainly be esier not to have to collect it at Mumbai, and that might be a reason for going for the earlier flight which is with Kingfisher. But I don't want to worry if the plane is delayed, so maybe the later option with Spicejet is more sensible. Actually the flight arrives at 11.15 not 11. So there would be just under three and a half hours for the transfer. Look forward to anyone's views. Thanks |

You would have to collect baggae anyhow as you have to get it pass through Customs yourself.Airline would not do this for you. They would collect your luggage after it gets Customs Clearance.

Hi Chatwin,
You will be ok with the Kingfisher flight. Even if the flight left late at Heathrow I have always arrived in time in Mumbai. It would be very tiring for you and your family to wait for the 16+ flight. I am afraid you will have to collect your baggage in Mumbai and get it through customs as it is your first port of entry as has been mentioned before. Kingfisher will not check it through to Goa. Since you are travelling with kids ask the Kingfisher staff to asssist you, they will be helpful. Do take the shuttle service to the domestic airport. Don't worry you'll be fine |

If you re traveling on the same reservation/PNR and it is KingFisher, then the IT(Kingfisher) staff will facilitate your smooth transfer from International to Domestic, after you clear customs.

Get yourself on Kingfisher to Goa as well.
Collect your luggage and clear the customs....Kingfisher will assist you from thereon. You are all set if you book through to Goa on Kingfisher. Not to worry. ribhu |

Thanks for all the advice. We have decided to go for the earlier Kingfisher flight, and just hope that bad weather in the UK does not delay us. But Kingfisher have said that if this happens our tickets will be valid for another flight or we would get a refund. They also said that the baggage could go all the way to Goia and that we would not need to collect it at Mumbai. I queried this, as people on here had said I had to collect it as it was our first port of entry. Apparently not. Anway, we can check that at Heathrow. It was useful to be told that the luggage allowance on the domestic flight was a lot less than on the international. But as we will be carrying backpacks, we don't want them too heavy anyway.
It seemed sensible to go with the same airline all the way, and good to have a shorter wait at Mumbai. Thanks again for advice. |

Since Goa is part of India, Immigrations and Customs will be at Mumbai because the International flight has BOM as its final destination rather than Panaji, Goa.
