Spicejet: CCU-DEL <Domestic Airports Question>
I have a two questions I hope someone can kill the quandary.
I'm planning on flying in to Kolkata internationally and transferring to a domestic flight (Spicejet). What does this involve at CCU? Are there two terminals intl/dom and how long do I need to pick up my bag from a short haul flight (BKK) and hustle over Domestic? When I arrive in Delhi, do I exist more or less the same place as I would from International flights? If not, how do I get myself t the police taxi stand outside Intl flight exit? price is so good, why take the train?! Thanks - |

Yes there are two terminals at Kolkata. One International and other domestic. Howver, I am Not sure about Inter Terminal Movement.
In Delhi also we have two terminals one International and one domestic (actually 2 Domestic Terminals) Landing is common but then plane taxies to Domestic Terminal. If you are coming from a domestic flight from Kolkata, no need to worry about the taxies. Pre Paid Booth is inside the arrival hall itself.

The two terminals in CCU are close enough, about 500 metres (a third of a mile) that you can easily walk except when it is raining.

Note that in the arrivals hall in Delhi, that the signs for the pre-paid taxi booth are mostly pointing the wrong way. Follow the exit signs and the booth is on the left.

thanks again all and jsop - ive landed in delhi many times.
question - judging by atala's comment, the dom/intl terminals are close but i will be arriving in monsoon. if i must taxi - what should it cost me w/ taxi mafia door 2 door? next, most important - is 1.5 hours from scheduled landing and departure (4hr flt from bkk) to get to spicejet, check in and get to the plane. my hunch is the terminals are very small, but i dread immigration queue and - ah yes...tis india. THANK YOU |

Take an auto instead, or just a cycle Rickshaw, if you arrive during day-time (safety-issue in the dark!). |

hey - thanks so much. ouch 200 for 500meters. my backpack is smallish (32L) but i have a gear bag with some camping kit - hence the taxi. also concerned arriving in monsoon. potentially driving rain.
but this is the issue: can i get off a plane (intl) due to arrive at 1600 to a domestic flight at 1715? 1.25 hours - close. btw this is in kolkata ccu |

If you take a taxi, he loses his place in line and will expect more than Rs 30 for that. But I don't think the terminals at CCU are 1/3 mile apart. They are literally next to each other. Door to door I would estimate 200 meters (1/8 mile). Even in the monsoon it doesn't always rain.
You say you have been to Delhi many times? The domestic terminals are several miles from the international terminal. Why would you exit the domestic terminal and go to the taxi stand at the international terminal? If you are looking for a taxi, you get one from Spicejet's domestic terminal. That was not what I meant. In order to give a comparison, I mentioned that it is 200something (perhaps 270 Rs or maybe now around 300 to go into the city, to downtown Kolkata). So if you compare to that rate, you can estimate how much you would pay for just a short ride, if it rained really heavily.
It is clear what it would be impossible to get a taxi from the queue, but there are plenty of others waiting beyond the queue, more like private cars hoping to make some Rupees. But beware these are real pushers and would want an amount as large as possible. My advice: Just forget it all, wait a moment in case it rains heavily, and then, as RPG says too: walk. ![]() Quote:
I would book a later flight. |

Monkgonemad - Yes, when you land at the domestic terminal in Delhi you can follow the same steps as you do at the international terminal. Look out for the government run pre-paid taxi booth, pay up and then follow the signs to the place where the taxis are parked in the designated boxes outlined on the ground.

Let's try this again slowly and loudly. The flight from CCU to DEL is a DOMESTIC flight. It arrives at one of the DOMESTIC terminals in Delhi. There is NO REASON to go from the DOMESTIC terminal to the INTERNATIONAL terminal just to catch a taxi, since these terminals are SEVERAL MILES AWAY from each other.
