Selecting best flight option from Delhi to Maldives

Hello,

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to India (Delhi, Agra and several locations in Rajasthan) and Maldives in November 2008 and we are looking for the best way to get from Delhi to Male. We want to take the Indian airlines flight IC965 from Bangalore to Male because it is neither too early nor too late in the day, giving us the chance of getting to our resort in Maldives in one day. The flight departs from Bangalore at 15:05 and arrives in Male at 16:35. (This option will not show up yet or show up with wrong times in many flight search engines as Indian airlines changed the schedule of this flight recently.)

What is giving us the biggest headache is which flight would be the most appropriate for our connection from Delhi to Bangalore. These are the options we have found so far:
- Indian Airlines flight IC803 Dep. 12 Nov 2008 06:15 Arrival 08:45
- Indian Airlines flight IC506 Dep. 12 Nov 2008 09:40 Arrival 12:10
- Jet Airways flight 9W 801 Dep. 12 Nov 2008 06:35 Arrival 09:10
- Jet Airways flight 9W 815 Dep. 12 Nov 2008 09:50 Arrival 12:25
- JetLite flight 231 Dep 12 Nov 2008 07:10 Arrival 09:45

There is on one hand the question about Indian airlines vs the other airlines. If we book both flights on the same airline (Indian), will we be in a better situation in case the former flight will be late or cancelled, making us miss the connecting flight to the Maldives or does it not make any difference? Is it possible to book our baggage all the way to Maldives and thus not check it out and back in in Bangalore and remaining in transit? Or is that maybe not a good idea because of the possibility of the luggage not making it on the connecting flight? The former flight is domestic and the latter is international - is it possible to remain in transit in the connecting airport in such a situation?

On the other hand there is the question about whether to take an early flight (6:15 / 6:35 / 7:10) vs the later flight (09:40 / 09:50)? Are three hours in Bangalore enough?
The JetLite flight comes up combined with the Indian airlines flight from Bangalore to Male when searching for this trip in the Makemytrip.com website. However, the JetLite flight comes up as Air Sahara. Since the company is not operating under this name anymore, is it still safe to book this flight via this website?

Sorry for the length of this post and all the questions but we are complete novices when it comes to domestic flights in India. Any suggestion or further information about any of the above questions will be appreciated.

Hello Pall and welcome to indiamike.

IC803 - 06:15 departure would be my choice, reason - Fog may cause incoming flights to be delayed, chances are the 06:15 starts the day from Delhi, the later flights may start somewhere else then fly into Delhi before loading for their Bangalore flight.

I'd much rather be stuck in Bangalore for a few hours (great place for shopping and for pubs), than be stuck in Delhi airport not knowing if you'll make your connection.

Thank you, Steven. This sounds reasonable. It looks like I would be able to book both flights on Makemytrip.com but only separately, whereas the JetLite flight Delhi-Bangalore can be booked in conjunction with the International Bangalore-Male flight. I am unsure of the meaning of this but I guess it means at least that there is less chance of our bags getting lost in transit.
