I'll be visiting india during Christmas. I'd like to knwo what the readers think about the reliability of Indian Airlines flight. Do they get cancelled or rescheduled?
I would like to take the IA flight from Madurai to Bombay; to catch the flight to Frankfurt. kumar |

Let's just say that to an experienced traveller, the sight of Indian Airlines and "reliability" in the same sentence is quite a shock. They're always the last air option, and to be frank if I absolutely had to be somewhere at a certain time (e.g. to catch my flight home), I'd take a train and plan to be there at least a day early.

Have to agree with abracax to some degree, although IA has improved a lot since being subjected to competition. The old IA was run with the efficiency and charm of most Indian state enterprises. If you have a choice, use Jet Airways -- they have had rapid growth due to a stellar record of punctuality and efficiency. They have an up-to-date fleet of 737-400's, and cabin service that is comparable to any good airline. I would still make sure you have several hours leeway to make your flight home, however. If IA is the only option, and especially if they have only a single flight a day, then you should probably go the day before and spend a night in Mumbai to be safe.
