One way or return flight query?

Hi people, just wondering if I need to book a return flight to India? I'm hopefully heading out just after christmas for a while, maybe longer than a while... who knows!?.... then want to continue to south east asia.

So just wondering if I book a SINGLE TICKET would I get any hassle once I arrive in India?

Thanks, Ben.

You'll never be asked for your travel documents. It's perfectly fine to enter India by air and depart by land or sea--or book your air ticket after you land and your plans become firm.

The last time I flew to India I was not allowed to board the plane without a ticket out from India.

When was that? No proof of outbound journey is required. It's perfectly acceptable to fly in on a one-way ticket--unless you are a Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Nepalese national, etc.--from some country over which India exercises tight immigration controls.

Nov 2003. Flying in from Colombo. No idea if they were right or not. Not a major problem anyway. Bought a ticket at the airport with a CC and had it refunded a few hours later in Trivandrum.
