OCI cardholders to get cheaper domestic airfares

NRIs will now be able to avail of cheaper airfares on flights within India, if they have the OCI card.
Holders of the 90,000-odd Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards can now fly on domestic routes in India by paying the same fare as resident Indian nationals.

That would have been me Nick

It's good news. (For me anyway). Another reason to visit India more often and travel further within the country itself.

Sorry, Jasmin --- indeed it would

I was issued with perfectly good brain cells; just didn't look after them properly!

Dual pricing is supposed to be on the way out, anyway.

Or maybe that particular initiative got 'conveniently' forgotten

It would be really nice if we ALL paid the same fares, isn't it?

Ignorant

I am ignorant of the OCI Card. I leave for India this saturday with a PIO Card. Too late for an OCI now but this is for future reference.

What is the difference between the two?
Can I upgrade (As Nick suggested to me in another posting) to an OCI and how much does that cost?
I like the idea of cheaper airfares with an OCI Card but will travel agents actually accept that.

I'm guessing the burden of proof so to speak, will come when you check in DD you will then have to prove you're an Indian (resident) or an OCI card holder.
Your ticket will indicate which tariff you paid!!

By the way get it sorted out my man, this offer extends to parks and monuments as well!!

Proof

I have a PIO Card which looks like a passport. So I have proof of that but no real perks.

Perhaps the scheme will be extended DD or this could be shoving people in the direction of the new OCI card for whatever reason!!

Well, I'm feeling guilty already and I havn't even recieved my OCI card yet! yes, it would be nice if everyone paid the same for enterance fees/flights in India.

Just wondering though, will this mean that certain businesses will suffer financially because so many of us will be paying less for certain things? Or does it not really make much difference in the long run?

No need to feel guilty. High time India moved in even/same pricing based on same service provided rather than this ability to pay outdated model. While the transition in the short term will affect some, this is good economic procedures for the long run. Volume will increase because of this.

Quick question. What if you have a P.I.O. card instead of an OCI? Would the same apply regarding internal flights?
