No more queues for immigration checks at airports

My apologise if this is duplicated as I tried posting it a few minutes ago and the pages were going weird, however I have noticed the new India Travel Forum logo so someones been fiddling ~ Cool.

NEW DELHI: The globe-trotting Indian's worst nightmare of facing long queues at Indian airports for immigration checks will soon be passe. The government is planning to ease the immigration rush at the arrival terminal at Indian airports by setting up separate check-in counters for Indians and foreigners.

No more queues for immigration checks at airports.

The link did not work ( may be the site is down) But how will separate counters help, unless they increase the staff? that will probably take an act of god.

The link did work just now but try this one anyway ~ http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/a...ow/1107012.cms

I would not to excited on this improvement as it will still be a drag but it is a shift in thinking and there may be more to come.

well, from my experience (Sept 2004) there are already separate queues for Indians and Foreigners.

And in the foreigner queue it took an hour to get through. This I guess was due to the 3/4/5 planes that landed about the same time more than anything else, because my wife flew through in about 10 minutes when she came in December.

And the indian queue was sure faster, but I'm not exactly 100% sure but they were probably waiting for their luggage in that time anyway so didn't really save any time overall.

I doubt very much will change unless they give their employees a boot in the backside!!
Really the customs and immigration are a black mark on India's state employed civil servants!!
I had to get quite imperious with the guy in Delhi airport, he looked up saw me then decided that cleaning his nails with a piece of paper was a far more fufilling prospect!!
I've had numerous run ins with these people, their body language speaks volumes, they think they are above doing a days work!!
When this improves only then will we see the queuing time improve!!

just a few minutes back i saw the news on tv. renuka choudhury and prafful patel were all smiles.

it seems a new service is being introduced for providing assistance to the incoming/outgoing traveller at airports. this service will be handled by some private agencies. they will guide you to hotels, arrange taxis for you etc.. if it does take off, it will certainly improve the lot of the travellers.

Lets hope so, though I confess to being a little dubious. The other services to passengers also need looking at!! Like why do some passengers still have a hard time when they book via a pre-paid taxi office??
With taxi drivers still trying to take them to hotels they don't want to go to!
IMHO this should NEVER happen since these guys are presumably licensed to do business in the Arrivals Hall, at the first sign of these malpratices they should be warned and if the behaviour persists they should lose said license!!
One can only hope that these new services do a better job of welcoming tourists to India!!
Oh and while they're at it perhaps the Delhi Police could stop taking back handers and get rid of the scam artists on the stairwell at New Delhi Train Station!!
These things need to be addressed if India's tourist boom is to continue! First impressions linger long in the minds of tourists, entry into India should be made as hassle free as possible, and the more persistant scams like the ones at NDTS should be cleared up for good!
