I booked a Flight ticket on Make My trip to travel on Jet airways and made a typo error with my last name. I misspelled my last name with an additional 'e', so my ticket now reads Praveeen instead of Praveen. I called Jet airways and they said that they do not have the option to the change the name and the only thing I could do is to cancel my booking and rebook. Unfortunately the ticket prices for the same flight has gone up by a fortune, I would end up paying an additional 4,500 Rs to rebook including the cancellation fee.

Do you think this would be an issue when travelling and if I should take a chance and travel with the same ticket.

If it is domestic travel then I think you can take a chance and hope that the extra "e" will not be noticed and if you do have a problem at least you will still be in India with other options such as train travel.

But if it is international travel then I think it is not worth taking a chance and getting stuck in London or New York with a ticket where the name does not exactly match your passport.

I had a similar situation and asked a friend who travels a lot internationally and whose sister is working with an int'l airline. He said: Spelling in names is not a problem, even if noticed (unlikely), but numbers are (like passport number, or credit card number).

Hmmm ! Heuristically yes. However, a first time traveler (i.e new passport without any past entry, no previous entries of travel with the airline indexed to his passport number) might get snared into a secondary.

I was thinking, too, that in relation to travel to the U.S. it would be a problem, as travellers lists are disclosed to the U.S. gov. But within India, hmm, I don't think it matters at all.

I faced similar issues with Spicejet.. My name was spelled Ashish instead of Aashish

But I called Spicejet and they changed the Ashish to Aashish
