Hi,

Booking a flight from Kolkata to Goa for next Feb and a number of options come up, all with a layover somewhere. What is considered the mimimum layover (same carrier for both flights?) I have a Jet Lite option but layover of only 40mins, SpiceJet is 55 mins or I could layover for 2hr 10 and get a later connecting Jet Lite flight. I assume 40 mins is pushing it too far for getting a connecting flight?

Thanks

2 hrs is minimum time required to clear customs, transfer to the domestic terminal, look for a connecting flight which is like 4 to 5 hrs from the time of international arrival.

Thanks, we're arriving on a domestic flight from Kolkata so will be in the same terminal if that makes any difference?

I'd go for the JetLite if they approve the 40 minute transfer time when issuing the ticket. Then if you miss it because the first flight is late, at least you have a backup which they should put you on later. Since it's domestic to domestic in BOM that's easy. SpiceJet, being strictly a low-fare point-to-point carrier is liable to be able to do less for you in case of a missed connection (even if they wanted to) than JetLite and its affiliated carriers.

I'd go with the 2h layover. Conservative? Yes. But it isn't unbearably long. The 40m option means it'll keep weighing on your mind, and there are all sorts of reasons why a flight might be delayed by that much, even at the last minute, or while up in the air circling prior to landing. And if you have baggage to collect, forget about it. You might be lucky, but it isn't a risk worth taking.

Considering you're a "we", I guess an hour more or less doesn't hurt with good company Personally, I think it would be cheaper to fly Kolkata-Pune, then hop a nifty sleeper bus (book online on www.redbus.in or get it on the spot) to Goa along the coast. But that's just me!
