Medical items through customs

Hi everyone,

I've read the recent thread regarding customs in Delhi, and how the service has improved greatly. Was just wondering if anyone had ever had any problems getting medical items through. For example I have a medical kit that contains a couple of syringes (just in case I wound up in a dodgy medical facility) and some medication for delhi belly etc. I've got a doctors certificate for the lot, but just thought I'd ask the question. There's no reason that I can think of that they'd be looking through my bag anyway, but I guess you never know. I suppose customs in India is well used to such items?

Thanks

I also have a first aid kit with hypodermic needles, syringes, scissors, sutures & needles, drugs, etc.

This has never been a problem in baggage or hand luggage.

On one occasion the first aid kit was in our hand luggage and it was stopped by a security person on the x-ray machine. They weren't interested in the drugs or hypodermics, but wanted to check the scissors.

There was no problem with the scissors, as they have rounded ends, so we re-packed the bag and boarded the plane.

Sending emergency medical supplies ..

Just as a mental note for anyone, our CEO who is Diabetic/heart condition ran out of medication so he ordered a refill via Fedex from America. His wife marked $100.00 US - Urgent Medical supplies. You guessed it - he had to pay $100.00 taxes/duty/st(screwing tax) call whatever .. before he received it at the hotel. i.e. took that $100.00 sum verbatim - didn't do his blood pressure any good ...
