Left Luggage at DEL suspended...now what?
Hi everyone, I have loved reading this forum for preparing for my trip, but Im not at such a stand still and cant find an answer without asking my question.
I was reading and so excited about the left-luggage at DEL. But while reading the prices and the days the luggage can stay behind I saw this little note: Due to prevailing security alerts, the left luggage facility at IGI Airport's Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 has been suspended till further notice. Inconvenience caused to passengers is regretted. http://www.newdelhiairport.in/faq.asp I am wondering what my next option is. I need my luggage stored for at least 6 days while I go from Delhi to Pune. I will be arriving back from Pune to Delhi 5 hours before my international flight (through Kingfisher) and therefore would need a place near the airport to store my extra luggage. Do I have any VERY SAFE options? |

Left luggage is usually for longer term storage. By the time you get your bags and switch terminals you'll have a couple of hours to wait before check-in and you could just keep your luggage with you.

I will be in the country for 6 weeks before my domestic flight, so I will have full baggage with me. I need my bags to be held for 6 days.
Sorry for any confusion. |

Are you staying at a hotel in Delhi? They'd probably hold the luggage for you, and may be able to get it to the airport for you. Arrange with them to send a car with your luggage to pick you up at the domestic terminal.
Personally, I'd take it all to Pune. |

I am not staying at a hotel. I will be staying at Jamia Millia Islamia University.

I'm curious, what is the advantage of leaving your stuff behind in Delhi? The railway station has a left luggage facility, but I don't know enough about it to recommend it as being "VERY SAFE"; I'd be far happier taking my belongings with me.

Any ideas?
I don't have anything to add, but I'm very curious to hear an answer to this question. I'm going to be making a stop in Delhi for two days before heading off to Nepal on a month-long trip, and I'd like someplace to leave my luggage (not a hotel, as I won't be staying in Delhi but pushing straight on to Agra). I'd rather not carry 70+ pounds of camping equipment on a day trip -- are there any convenient options near the airport now that left luggage has been discontinued?
Alternately, does anyone know if the airport left luggage program has resumed? I know the website still says it's been shut down, but I'm hoping that notice might be out of date. |

Like the earlier post by Haylo says, there is a left luggage facility at train stations, like New Delhi train station. If you are taking a train, that's the place to use. If you are renting a car (and driver), the luggage can stay in the car. Other than that - your only option would be to convince some hotel to hold it for you for some negotiated compensation. The train station would be my first choice.
PS: The local term for left luggage is cloakroom... |

I very used cloakrooms at train stations in past and never had a problem. However, I remember having to show them some train ticket.
This time I used a cloackroom at the inter-state bus terminal in Shimla. It seemed to be privately operated and I had a perfectly smooth transaction. Didn't have to show them any bus tickets. I have no idea if Kashmere Gate ISBT or other such places in Delhi have such facilities. Earlier I used a storage at a hotel near Jammu after checkout. Just make sure you get a receipt. |

At the rail station it is important to note that you must have lockable luggage. I have used them with no problems but security can have lapses. For camping gear hardly a problem unless its gold plated..
