Jaisalmer Flight
I noticed some news about the cancellation of JAISALMER flight. How about the situation now? Any development? Are there any filghts between JAISALMER and DELHI, also between JAISALMER and UDAIPUR now? If there are, how can I book it outside india? Do they accept credit card booking? Another question is that if Oct. is the peak season in Rajasthan? Should I book the hotel before going there?

october isnt the peak season for rajasthan. december-january is. also i fail to see the necessity of taking a flight to/from jaisalmer even if one exists. its better to use trains/car/bus.

Ann, I've not seen much news on it of late; some of the latest I've seen was late last year: Jaisalmer-Delhi flights from 1st December. Try also final word on flights to jaisalmer? and Kingfisher Airlines targets tourist routes. ; there must be others. You can search around for other threads on it; if you scroll to the bottom of this page, you'll find a listing of "similar threads." Opening any of those will again feature a list of similar threads at bottom, and so on and so forth. It's an easy way to navigate the site.

a flight between jaialmer and delhi, would be costly, would mean flying over (ie skipping) places like jodhpur, jaipur, pushkar and it would also mean the traveller would not get to see the beautiful desert scenery. the cities of rajasthan are located 5-6 hours drive or an overnight journey from each other... so i dont see the necessitty for a flight. also a night train exists between jaisalmer and delhi/

Yes, going to India I'd personally rather do it by ship, but sometimes we are stuck to other practical considerations.
(I still mean to walk to Southern France, should take around half a year from where I'm at I'm told, along pretty decent paths. On the upside, it doesn't seem to cost a lot. Until that day, I'll probably fly it from a cost & feasibility angle, although I'd actually prefer trains, but they're ridiculously expensive in these parts, alas.) |

TIME, singhsub, TIME. If you can find a way to convince my employer to give me enough holiday leave to take the slow train all around the state I urge you to do it!
There is also the thought that the OP may have wanted to arrive in Jaisalmer by road/rail, admiring all the scenery, and then fly out, giving her longer in Jaisalmer. I've wanted to drive across Europe for a while now. Just take a summer off and pootle along with a "Warning: British driver" sticker and a blanket, to southern Italy, or maybe Turkey. Add it to the dream pile. *sigh*

Admittedly, my dad was said to be a good and dedicated driver though. But really, a car and tent should get you quite some ways around the place -- probably not all in one go though, but hey, there's always the en-route places, can be just as fun as whatever happens to be the destination. But two weeks say -- yes, correspondingly cramped of course ![]() |

I'm actually sorry rather for the way this thread got side-tracked, and would rather see it get back to the point if anyone has the info: Namely, what's the current deal with flights if any to and from Jaisalmer?
Ann, if you haven't checked those sites already, in the "travel links" link in my signature (in post #3 above) you'll find some air travel sites that you could check for current statuses, it's not my specialty but a couple of them are supposed to be quite good. The Ixigo one seems currently quite popular. But some first-hand recent information would certainly be welcome. |

I'd like to know if they are resuming Jaisalmer - Delhi flights anytime soon as well.
I know it's an overnight train but it's still very long! |

As far as I know, no. But when I get back to Jaisalmer will do more checking. You can look on Indian Airways website to see, also Kingfisher. There were rumours one more airline was to be making flights to Jaisalmer, maybe direct but I am not sure which one and whether this is still a rumour. Perhaps you could also check Air Deccan and Jet Airways websites.
