Off the top of my head I would say 'No'. As far as I know nothing like 'civil unrest' in India so far, due to the news of Pakistan emergency etc. Life is going along as normal - plenty of unrest in other areas for different reasons (Nandigram etc. but I barely understand the politics of these ones).

flight
My wife and I were booked on a flight from Jaisalmer to Delhi for Dec. 23, samething happened, flight cancelled. I was able to get a refund and I rebooked over the internet with Air Deccan for 4100 for TWO tickets (they take international credit card online), so at least the savings will cover my cost of transportation to Jodhpur,

gsturm - you could investigate Kingfisher, because they are supposedly coming to Jaisalmer from 1st December but they go Delhi - Jaipur - Jaisalmer. On way back you go Jaisalmer - Udaipur - Delhi (and I think on both ways you have to change planes but I'm really not sure about this) I stuck to IA Jod -Del back to Jod because the agent himself here was not too keen to even look at it and I think maybe cost was going to be more. It was just easier for him to do the IA one. The time of the flights with Kingfisher will be more than 2 hours longer.

Thanks Aishah - u r a wealth of info. I am considering changing my travel route to end in Jodhpur rather than Jaisalmer to circumvent any potential flight delays, re-route etc as I can't afford the time. So, maybe I'll do the following:
Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Ajmer/Pushkar - Bikaner - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Delhi rather than the original Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Ajmer/Pushkar - Jodhpur - Bikaner - Jaisalmer - Delhi No idea if the Ajmer/Pushkar - Bikaner leg is do-able in a straightforward cost efficient manner - will find out soon. Any advise Aishah on itinerary and changes? It will be a 15-17 days trip in total. |

You will certainly be able to do this within your time frame and the route seems fine - Penelope I suggest also you check out other people's itineraries and see if you might like to include different places e.g. Udaipur, and cut out Bikaner - however if you like what you have, leave it! I think there may be trains going Ajmer - Bikaner, Steven ber is the one to check with here.
You can fly direct Jodhpur - Delhi - flight leaves around 1p.m. (Haven't got exact timing yet but it's around that time!) Also there are Kingfisher flights going from other places in Rajasthan including Jaisalmer, and Jet Airways, Jod -Delhi. |

Too bad about the Jaisalmer flights. I guess I'll have to take the train after all.
I hope the ones from Bhuj to Jaisalmer won't be too full in about 3 weeks' time when I'm good and ready to head up that way. 2 weeks less 12 hours and I'll be touching down in India!!! WooHoo! I've waited all my life for that ![]() |
