Internal flights - should I book now or wait?

I want to fly from Delhi to Goa rtn in September but I will be spending 3 weeks in Delhi first then travelling for a week before I go to Goa (probably Varanasi), and my plans might change ... so I don't really want to be tied down to any final dates but at the same time, I don't want to pay a huge amount for the flights!

Is it better to book now with the option of changing the outward flight closer to the time (is this possible?) or should I wait til I'm in India (2 weeks away) and book once I'm there and have more of an idea of what I want to do? I assume the flight prices will only keep going up; is it possible to get cheap-ish last minute flights?

I found rtn flights for about £80 - is this a good price, can I find some for less, or will it all go up from this?

Thanks!

Usually you can book one or two days before. I've done that serveral times. I guess it depends on the routes and the time of year. September is not a busy month for Goa

A ticket is approx 3000 rs wich is about 37 quid

Use www.makemytrip.com

edit:
Oh 37 for one way, so i guess 80 is suitable

One month before the trip is good enough in majority of the cases, I have not seen a major difference between the price you get then and while booking 3-4 months in advance.

Also it will give you better control over your trip planning ( remember most airline tickets are non refundable and there are rescheduling charges unless you are buying one of those high price tickets)

Prices for second half of September are likely to steadily creep up....my view.

If you are sure about the dates, buy them sooner than later.

Rarely prices drop at a later time.

Visit www.cleartrip.com and shortlist the airline based on the cheapest fares showing there. You could also shortlist specific dates for a month on which fares are lowest. CAUTION : Do NOT book here as this is not the cheapest offer available. This website shows all the possible flights very comprehensively.

Best price at the moment should be around Rs. 6,000 all inclusive for going and return in September.

Then visit the airlines' official website and book there as that will be the cheapest fare (at least most of the time).

Do also compare SpiceJet's price (at their website) since their lowest offer does not show on ClearTrip's website and they have special offer when you book a return flight also.

2nd Sep is Onam, 21st Sep is Eid and 28th Sep is Dussehra. Prices tend to shoot up on weekends as it is and much more with holidays.

Booking early will be okay ... even if prices go down, do not expect more than Rs. 500 in total ... but if they skyrocket ... not worth waiting if you are absolutely sure of your plans ... remember, there is no such thing as a refund ...

Goa will be hot and sultry during the days in September.

http://yatra.com is also quite reliable.

And http://travelguru.com

Use these sites to compare fares, but book directly from the airline website, to avoid paying a commission!
