Smile Indian Airlines Passes

Has anyone purchased an Indian Airlines Wonder pass or Discover India pass in Australia? I live in Tasmania and 2 travel agents I have been to don't seem to have a clue about these passes? Is it possible to purchase online without using a travel agent? Also, how far in advance can these passes be purchased and can you pre-book the flights you want in Australia before arriving in India.

Any advice would be appreciated.

While I haven't purchased a pass in Australia (or anywhere else, for that matter), it would appear from the web-site that you should be able to order through one of AI's interline partners in Au or just buy when you get to India (Quantas is one of many such). As for pre-booking flights, I would think this should be possible, but better to check with an AI agent or one of AI's partners. You have probably already seen this page but it gives a bit of detail about the programs:

I think you have to go back to the AI home page for a link to the international agents and partners though, and there may have been a recent price increase -- one of the programs mentioned on the site expired a couple of months ago so it may not be up to date. On the other hand, perhaps it was just Jet who increased their prices on a similar plan (hazy memory).

edit: the link goes to the home page and you will have to click on 'overseas passenger' and follow links as the inside pages apparently cannot be linked directly.

Why Indian Airlines? Unless you're flying somewhere Jet Airways doesn't fly to, Jet gets everyone's nod for service, on-time departures and arrivals, food, and comfort.

There are five Jet Airways offices in Australia -- in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. See www.jetairways.com.

I happen to live an hour from the one Jet Airways office in the U.S. I walked in last week and walked out with an eight-destination airpass half-an-hour later. I suspect you could do the same in any of the Australian offices.
