how many ruppess should I need at airport
Will be sadly enough, leaving India very soon. If Im not Indian can I bring a handful of ruppes home? If not, maybe I should bring a 100 ruppes to the airport for chai and biscuits? Sure would be nice to have some small bills for my return trip here.
Our the indain customs going to shake me down, wonder why on earth I would have 400usd worth of tooth paste and vitamins? On the otherside of the world, is the USA customs going to hassle me about any mercandise over 400usd? Should I have reciects in hand, read to prove whats what and how much everything cost. In the past I have always been waved through costums, have times changed? Does anyone no the limites, or how I can find all the rules? |

I just returned from India on Friday, my second trip in 6 months. Both times, Indian customs did not "shake me down" for any rupees. However, if you get your money changed at AMEX or Thomas Cook, you can keep 20 rupees if you want.
As for US Customs, on the plane they will give you a declaration form and it clearly states that your allowance is about $800. No one asks for receipts, so I'd say if you are bringing in a gold necklace that cost you 44,000 rupees, no one would know, but don't take this as legal advice! It's just my experience. US Customs in Chicago at O'Hare Airport takes less than 5 minutes and they are always joking around with people (again, in MY experience.) However, I did get nabbed by the German police for fogetting (yes, I truly did forget!) to put my Swiss Army knife in my check in bags -- damn, that was a good knife.....had a police report filled out and everything.....

No worries about being shaken down at Indian customs and if you are there's a telephone number displayed all over the airport, which you can use to inform his/her superior officer!!

It would be better if you go thru the policies first, you never know when these Indian guys begin to drill you down. Check out the website and stick to the rules.
