This might seem a strange question but this has been a real issue in the UK with the higher levels of security checks. How long should I allow to check in for domestic flights? For example I have a flight leaving Amritsar to Delhi at 07.55, what time do I need to get to the airport?
Many thanks Duncan (coming to India for the 1st time Feb 08) |

I'm also interested in finding this out. Would 2 hours be long enough/too long?

Check-in deadlines in general are -
Domestic flights: 30 minutes International flights: 1 hour A good rule of thumb is to double the deadline time. That will allow u time for unexpected delays (traffic, etc), a somewhat better choice of seat/s if not pre-assigned, and time to change money if needed (not possible after immigration/customs at some intl airports). |

Check your ticket...the check in time is mentioned on them...
In Domestic sector some airlines have a 30 minutes deadline and some 40 minutes deadline...etc..if you are used to city and understand the traffic then you should atleast keep an hour and if you are not used to the city and 90 minutes or more.. Btw..Checkin starts 2 hours before departure...it might be different for some airlines... |

I've got 75 minutes for the Chennai --> Hyderabad flight I'm taking soon.
Must be quite a lot of variety in this!

Airlines like to lie, becos many people prefer to come late rather than early to the airport. So if u have even 50 pax showing up at closing time, that's a major headache for airlines, espesh for intl flights.
There is the concept of a legally-enforceable deadline for airports, based on each airport's general logistics. Beyond this deadline, airlines can deny boarding without compensation to late-comers. This varies from airport to airport, but not from airline to airline based on whims and fancies. There can be a few exceptions though, e.g. El Al generally has earlier deadlines world-wide due to extra security procedures, as do flights into and out of a few trouble-spots. In general, the deadlines for Indian airports are the ones I mentioned. Cud be different for Guwahati and Srinagar, where extra security checks are in place. Just in case u are all wondering, they tend to keep these airport deadlines quiet so that they can screw with the pax's peace of mind at will. Last edited by Dilliwala : Nov 27th, 2007 at 22:01.
