How far in advance to arrive for a flight

Hi:

I'm flying to Delhi in mid Jan., staying overnight at a hotel and catching a 9:00 a.m. flight for Trivindrum. How far in advance should one arrive at the airport?

An hour is generally enough for a domestic flight - call it 1.5 hours to allow time fight your way into the terminal & get to the check in. The last Kingfisher flight I caught, check in did not even open until 1 hour ahead.

Not sure if you have been to India before, but you always have to show your ticket or copy of itinerary to be allowed into the terminal. This regularly trips up those of us who are from abroad, are used to having an eticket and don't think to carry a copy of anything!!!

Thanks for the info. I haven't traveled in India before so I'm a little nervous, but excited. I booked a ticket on guru.com and I have the eticket printout. Hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Question

welcome to IM, gia, but I am curious....

how did you book a plane ticket on the website you mention when it's a website for freelancer writers, designers, etc. to find work?

Thanks for clarifying that. I have a tendency to type too quickly. It's the travelguru.com site.

Are you referring to travelguru.com ? I would suggest an hour and a half , if you want to finish your formalities peacefully .It also depends on your airlines ..which one are you flying ?

You need a copy of the ticket and a photo id proof, which I presume will be your passport-some also insist on a copy of the credit card used and if you have used someone elses credit card, an authorisation letter will be reqd

In Dec-Jan , most flights may be delayed cos of fog-so pls check with the airlines

Then pls check with them before you leave ..delays could be there .. one and a half is recommended - the airlines is a budget airlines - so no tele check in etc and it has lots of people checking in at the airport..there will be a long queque

have a safe flight

you should target reaching the Airport at 7:30 AM ...btw even 8 AM would be fine..however since you are new to the city, there is no harm in making it a bit early..

Chances are that the flight would be delayed at that time, because Delhi is clouded with fog that time of the year...

Would advice you to stock yourself with some refreshments as well, as Air Deccan is low cost airline and you cannot expect anything from them in case of Delays..

SueJ, by intinerary do you mean a copy of the email e-ticket receipt from the airline?

Yes - the email receipt is fine, or an itinerary from a travel agent.

I have managed to get in with just my passport, when I had nothing else. They often seem to have a copy of the passenger list that they can check against if you have nothing other than proof of who you are to give them. But I've learnt now that it's better just to have some printed doc that refers to the booking.

Its not mandatory, but in some airports they ask . To be on the safe side,

1. A printed e ticket
2.Photo id (passport)
3.Credit card authorisation only if you have used someone elses card or a photocopy of the card
