How do I fly from Delhi to Dharamsala?
Hi! This is my first post on this board. I'm visiting India in June to see my brother. We're aiming to get to Dharamsala, but would prefer to go by plane. Are there any regular flights going there right now? Can anybody point me in the right direction!? Thanks!

Sticky- thanks for the tip. I'm actually flying them from Delhi to Dehradun when I first get there, but it doesn't appear they fly to Dharamsala, at least not now. It's not given as an option on destination cities on their website.

Welcome to indiamike.com
There is a very good search engine you could use. (see top of page) The following is a thread from 2 days ago: - Delhi - Dharamsala (or Shimla) |

apparently amritsar is the nearest airport (200km), at least that is what i have read. I have not been there (Yet!), so dont take my word as gospel - another member might have some better information.

Sorry sticky, bet you wish you hadn't posted.
The airline industry is changing so fast, it's difficult keeping track. I just got a new timetable (correct up to 12th March) and there are many changes from my previous edition. Flights to Dharamsala are one change; flights to Jaisalmer are another, and no more flights at Agra is another. (used to have flights to Delhi, Khajuraho & Varanasi). |

All: Thanks for the information, thus far. It looks like Jagson Air might be the ticket to Dharamsala at this point.
ALSO... I read a post from amogasiddhi on another thread that Dharamsala might not be the best place to visit. I'll be in the region for about 2 and a half weeks. Is it worth to to head up to Dharamsala for 2 or 3 days? I'll be with my brother and we're interested in learning as much as possible and seeing places that most Westerners wouldn't visit on a vacation. Thanks! |

Wow, that ol flight Delhi-Agra-Kaj-Varanasi was a classic. I once actually flew from Agra to Delhi, it was kinda fun.
didn't need to be early but 15 minutes at the airport back then . . . gone the way of the steam engines, I guess ![]()

McLeod Ganj is always chock-a-block with Westerners. It's basically a big tourist-trap that's grown up around the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government-in-Exile. If you are interested in Tibetan stuff, it's worth visiting, but if you have no particular interest in the Tibetans-in-exile scene, and and you also want to avoid a lot of other Western tourists/travelers, it probably shouldn't be your first choice of destinations. Where is your brother staying in India, and what kind of experience are you looking for? If you could give us a little better idea of your hopes/expectations for your visit, we might be able to give you some better feedback. |
