How busy does Goa > Mumbai get?

Hello.

I'd like to fly from Goa to Mumbai at the end of November. Does anyone recommend that I book in advance or will I be able to turn up and get a flight? I understand that flights are quite regular. Im asking as I'd like some flexibility when I want to leave Goa.

Thanks.

Tom

I really know very little about flights. What I can say is it's obviously a popular route;* it won't be the lowest of seasons; and when I last enquired about an internal flight elsewhere in India at short notice (not a major tourist stretch at all, whether foreign or domestic), I had some trouble coming up with any deals at all -- and then what finally did come up far exceeded any of the remotely attractive fares one might otherwise have found, of course, as in a few weeks ahead.

So, er, I don't know. But it might pay to not leave it to the last minute.

* And, to add, trains on that route seem to be regularly booked up weeks ahead, or so one hears.

Did the same flight in early December of last year. I booked mine well in advance, but mostly because the fare was cheaper that way.
As I recall, there were open seats on my flight, so you could probably get away with a last-minute booking.

There are too many flights between Goa and Mumbai. The only issue is there is no concessional fare for the vacant seats before departure of the flights. The fares will be much higher than the rates which would be quoted if you book in advance.

I second that. I once had to fly to Goa a few years ago for a festival that was widely publicised. My bookings were done at the last moment, and a one-way Jet Airways Economy ticket that was usually about Rs 1500 turned out to be Rs. 8,500! I had to go, so I flew business class on the same aircraft which turned out to be cheaper

So yeah, that's an extreme example but it can happen... Since then, Airlines have been trying to reduce their free capacity so you're less likely to find a free seat today than you did a year ago.

btw Just to state the obvious and in case it's at all necessary, assuming you need to get to Mumbai to fly back home, people really should keep an eye on that no matter by what connection, if it fails for some reason, you should have time left for both arranging and actually taking an alternative connection to your exit point.

Yeah thank you thats a really good point. You're correct I do need to get back to Mumbai to fly home to London, so I think I'll stick to the train because I don't want to cut my Goa beach time short!
