You have nothing to worry about. let me try to give you a handy guide.
1. Packing. There are two types of kuggage. One that you keep with you like an hand bag or briefcase. In this you can not carry any sharp objects, knives, scissors, old fashioned unsafety razors, knitting needles etc. Any thing that could be used as a weapon or explosive devices. You can not carry, pepper spray, mace etc. You may not carry liquids, that include water, hair oil, creams etc. Toothpaste may be carried provided its in small 3oz tube. The scond kind of luggage is your suitcase and you can carry everything else in it. This will be taken by the airtline at the counter when you checkin. Do not put valuables in this suitcase such as, cameras, jewellery, computers etc. It could get lost!

2. Going to the airport: Arrive at least 2 hours before your flight. Since this is your first flight you dont want to be running late and freaking out. Tell the taxi driver your airline and he will take you to the correct terminal. In Delhi when I was lasty there they were constructing the new airport and flight terminals were being moved around.

3. At the gate: You will need a paper printout of your ticket and a photo identification cartd. The cop will let you in. You should see your airline counter somewhere otherwise ask someone. Go to the counter show them your tickety and they will take your suitcase and give you a boarding pass. This will have a small sticker on it which is the receipt for your luggage. DO NOT forget to take a luggage tag and affix it to your hand baggage which you will keep with you. On the boarding pass will be a gate number and seat number. Just follow the signs to SECURITY CHECK.

At The security Check: Put your mobile phone, wallet, metal belt, keys and other metal objects in your bag. Take out your lap top. You should have no dangerous objects on you or in your bag. KEEP your boarding pass with you. Put bag on conveyor belt and they will xray it. Leave the bag on the belt, walk through metal detector towards cop. He will pat you down, and stamp your boarding pass. Then walk to the other side of the conveyor belt. Your bag should have arrived. Check the luggage tag. It must be stamped, if it is not, tell the cop there to do so. You can put on your belt, take out your cell phone and so on.

AT THE GATE. Then you walk up to the gatenumber mentioned on your boarding pass and wait till they call your flight. They will check your boarding pass and a cop will look at the stamp on the luggage tag. Board the bus they will take you to the aircraft.

On the Plane: On your boarding pass there will be a seat number written. Find your seat put your bag in the compartment above it and you are ready to fly.

Whennn YOu get off. Follow everyone out and they will goo to a conveyor belt, where your suitcase should be. Collect it and you have completed your air plane journey.

1. Carry an identity card.
2. Reach two hours before the flight time
3. No liquids/hazradous goods in Cabin Luggage
4. If your airlines offers it, do web check in

A small backpack can be carried with you. A large one will be checked in to the airline. Camera and any other valuables should be carried with you on the aircraft.

Please check with your airline....I think no hand baggage is allowed in flights to Srinagar and Leh for security reasons.

Oh one more thing. Be courteous to people. It goes along way. Dont rush to the plane like you rush to a train station. It wont leave you behind. Also when it stops you dont have to rush out. It wont fly off.

I bring this up because every flight that I have been on in India, people begin jockeying for position, to get in and then to get out. Where seats are assigned it just doesnt make sense.

Traveller.1,

On a lighter and serious note....

1. You are right....
2. We are in a country where we need to compete for everything...
3. How do we change our behaviour just for a flight....

Cheers

Newbie to this forum, and traveling to India for the first time since all the carry-on restrictions have been imposed.

If I arrive at BOM off an international flight, with a domestic connection to GOI, would I be allowed to carry sealed duty-free liquids purchased at LHR or FRA through to the domestic flight as part of my carry-on luggage?

If there's an arrival duty-free at BOM T-2, would a sale there be allowed to board a domestic flight at T-1 as part of one's carry-on baggage?

Thank's for any advice!

No. You will not be allowed to carry bottled >100ml as carryon. This is also true of US.

Yes, there is a duty-free in BOM Arrival; same rules apply. No liquid over 100ml as carry on.

Guaranteed that you will not be allowed to carry on.

What you can do is as follows :

- You have to retrieve your luggage in Mumbai. Repack the purchased duty free items to your checked in baggage and then carry forward.......presuming that it is not fragile.
