Help sought getting from Cochin to Jodhpur on Jan 2

Hi all;

Thanks for all the great stuff in this forum, a ton of very useful stuff.

I've run into a complication with my itinerary. I want to go from Cochin to Jodhpur on Jan 2, but the only flight is on Jet airways with a very tight connection in Mumbai(arrives at 10:15, leaves at 10:45). I figure this is a very risky transfer anywhere in the world, expecially since the next flight on Jet airways is the next day.

There is a later flight from Mumbai to Jodhpur on Indian airways, but as I'll be on a Jet 14 day pass, it will be more costly to do it part on Jet airways and part on Indian.

Is it reasonable to try the 30 minute transfer? I assume that even if I get on, my bags might not, and that's a problem too.

Alternatives include pay for AIR India connection, or stay another night in Mumbai.

A few thoughts that sadly won't answer your question, however, it will bump your thread back to the top of the forum.

Jet have a lot of these 30 minute gaps, and they offer the route as a connecting flight, meaning they take responsibility if the first flight is late, I'm not sure what this would mean to you, would they supply a hotel for the night? it may be worth enquiring.

The Kochi-Mumbai flight carries on to Delhi, I think I'd (book then) stay on till Delhi (arr 12:55), then spend a few hours in Delhi and get an overnight train from Delhi (20:50) to Jodhpur (08:00), the train (2461) has AC First Class (Rs1950) as well as other cheaper classes.

Are you only going to Jodhpur to get to Jaisalmer?

Indian Airlines start operating a flight from Delhi (12:00) direct to Jaisalmer (13:10), the flight will operate daily from 1st November.

Train 4059 departs Delhi daily at 17:45 and gets to Jaisalmer at 13:00 the following day, no First Class on this train, but 2-tier air con is available.

I was going to Jodhpur for it's own sake. I hadn't thought of Jaisalmer, due to the drive. The new flight is thought provoking!

If I miss the connection, my fallback is to stay in Mumbai by the airport and chill, leave the next morning for Jodhpur. I'm scheduled for 3 nights in Jodhpur, and my guess is 2 will do. Since I'm going to be in Delhi at the end of my trip, I'd rather not go there at this point in the trip. (I could say the same of Mumbai, which is my starting point, but the flight stops there so no choice).

I'll call Jet Airways, and see what they say.

They said that if the plane was late, the duty manager, at his discretion, might put me on the next flight out on a different airline (Indian Airways has one in the early afternoon).

My biggest concern is that I would get on the plane but my bags wouldn't!
