Help - makemytrip.com
I'm a foreign tourist trying to buy tickets from makemytrip.com.
Since I can't use international credit card online, I've chatted with their customer service. Please help me with the offer: 1. Rate for India locals - Rs 6350 (Jodhpur-Udaipur-Delhi) 2. Must issue paper tickets to an India address; no e-ticket. The agent said that i can use this ticket since the foreigner rate rule is by airlines. Has anyone had experience on this kind of offer? Thanks a million. |

Which airline(s)? Some have different rates for foerigners, some don't. It sounds as if there are two rates but the agent is encouraging you to buy the ticket meant for Indians. This is not illegal, but would be against the airline's rules. While there is a chance they may not bother you and let you fly, there is also the chance that they may stop you from boarding and ask you to pay the fare difference.

Well what airline is it? Some airlines do have the same rate for foreigners and locals (deccan, spicejet, goAir, I think), yes...if that's what you are asking. I have flown with the above 3 airlines for Indian rates.

Are you talking about airline tickets? It's not clear to me and I don't know if makemytrip.com only deal in airline tickets.

You haven't indicated which airline you are booking with. Yes some airlines do have dual pricing. It is not a good idea to conceal your citizenship.
Btw there is an excellent overnight train from Udaipur to Delhi. |

i'm starting to be a little hesitant about makemytrip.com. they're asking for your creditcard no. and cvc. which essentially means anyone who get a hold of it can make online purchases. i mean usually on online booking systems, at least they have some securenet or something like that. but this? my friend was saying that they could technically spend all the money in the credit card and the card company would have no sympathy because you gave it out in the first place?

If you are worried about sending the info by fax, you can split it into 2 or more faxes, even send them hours apart. Quote:
Most good businesses will record such phone conversations to protect everyone. Make MY Trip will do the same, save the chat session or the phone conversation, and also asks you to fill out and sign an authorization from for a specific amount. |

Caution IS warranted a outfit like Make m trip should have a secure online payment gateway!
personally I think with a big company like this you have little to worry about in terms of being shafted by the company themselves but details like this in an unsecured format can be misused! |

All that that net security stuff does is set up a 'secure' encrypted link between your browser and their server, the idea of which is that third parties don't hack it. You are still giving the company the information --- without which (as has been said) how do they get the money off you?
