Thanks for the suggestion, Joph. I would maybe be willing to try that if other options don't work out. I am hopeful that some other travel agency in the world will be able to book the same flight for me and send the tickets to my non-Indian address. I don't think it's a complicated matter and I don't understand why the MakeMyTrip.com staff are not more helpful.

Any IATA registered TA with access to a GDS system can book,and issue a ticket based on availibility and published fares.

They now have a SSL facility and if they were to overcharge you or for someone to fraudulently use your card, then your credit card company will refund you.

Most of the internet pay sites (eg irctc) direct you to a payment gateway operated by banks, through a secure link and the credit card details are given to the payment gateway. Many sites even make a declaration that they don't capture credit card details in their site.

Never give credit card number / cvv number over open links or email/fax to any one. If the card is misused by any one who gets this information (the company will be liable only if they overcharge you for their service) in making online purchases with other sites you are liable and the bank will not bail you out.

Hence please don't share CC informations over email/fax. If the site dosen't provide a secure payment gateway operated by banks don't use it.

SSL simply means that the transaction is secure. It doesn't automatically mean that your CC company will pay for frauds. Please read the terms and conditions of issue of your CC (these vary between banks & types of cards) to know your liabilities in case of loss / fraud.

I have booked air tickets many times thru makemytrip.com and found their services ok. Others like ixigo, travelguru etc. are similar.
I use a credit card which provides Rs.20000 credit only for all online purchases.
