Help - im new - advice on flights please

heh guys,

thanks for taking the time to check me out.
i am a newbie. this is my first post.
im planning a flight in november 2004 to bombay and then do a bit of travelling around india..then i want to head onto bangkok to do some travelling round s e asia...

my question is this. does anyone know if it will be cheaper for me to buy a ticket from the uk to bombay with a return flight flying out from bangkok....and then buy a one way ticket to bangkok from bombay or calcutta whilst i am in india? or is it cheaper to buy before i go...what r the fare prices like when u r in india..esp to s e asia? dont care where really but bangkok seems like the best option

i have a quote from flightcentre who said 479GB for uk to bombay and return from bangkok to uk...they then quoted a further 250GB for a one way to cover me from bombay to bangkok

has anyone out there recently paid for a one way to bangkok from either bombay or calcutta?

is this confusing. sorry guys..its my first post and im new to all this ...

hope someone can help me decide for the best...

also, is it best to book well in advance or is it better to wait and get a last minute?

cheers

paul

No its not confusing..
fly in to Mumbai or Delhi (since its Nov. Delhi is more advisable) and then travel through India taking a low cost flight from Calcutta(Kolkata) to BKK and return..and then again travel back by train to Delhi or Mumbai for your retun flight..I think it wud definately work out cheaper than flying in Mumbai and flying out from BKK

thats my 2 paisa

Lucky you! savor the options between Biman, Air Nepal, and Indian Airlines . . .hehehe. If you can manage it, try to get onboard Thai, but last time I checked these were the cheepies. Bring a snack and sumthing to read

You may also want to look into getting a return ticket from London to Bangkok, with a stopover somewhere in India. Air India used to allow this sort of thing at no extra charge.

Cheapest return flight from Bangkok to Kolkata is about 9000 baht.... less than 130 pounds. I think this was with Air Bhutan or it might have been Biman. Thai Airlines is closer to 14000 baht. You should be able to get the equivalent deals from Kolkata. Air India does Bangkok-Delhi return for about 12000 baht.

I think slowbus is right about that stopover option. I always like Emirates as they give you lots of destinations to choose from in India (but they don't fly between Indian cities and Bangkok. It may also be worth trying Trailfinders as they are excellent although your nearest branch if you want to visit them is London or Oxford. But they give good service over the telephone.

Thai Airlines is a good suggestion too as they fly in and out of quite a few Indian cities.

I would like to think that you could get about another 100 quid off what you have been quoted - a total of 729.00 GBP so far. If you can't get much cheaper than that you may want to consider paying a bit extra and getting a round the world deal.

Good luck anyway and let us know how you get on!
