I have booked a couple of times from ixigo.

They take you to the airlines booking page. No problems.

there are direct, fast trains, if that's of any interest.

There used to be a direct IndianAirlines flight, but they've cancelled it, and made it a Bangalore - Bhubaneswar flight.

I think you'll have to go to Kolkata or Bangalore and then take a flight to Bhubaneswar...

Check www.makemytrip.com and www.yatra.com.

It's safe to book flights from these sites.

There are fast trains now? all I remember from my last trip in 2006 is that we took a train from Chennai to Bhuvaneswar that was suposed to take 20 hrs. and actually took 24 hours... My husband wasn´t very happy ...
I guess we are going back to Bangalore by train to take the flight to Bhuvaneswar, or fly to Kolkata and take the train to Bhuvaneswar ... I am going to check the dates and rates...
Thanks everybody for the tips and sites !!!

I don't think the trains have got any faster....they still 20 to 26 hours to reach BBSR.

You can check http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_metro_trns.html for details...

On a distance like that, I'm afraid a mere 4-hour delay is most merciful...

This is my personal opinion.

If train travel interests you, then there are a few choices between Chennai and Bhubaneswar that can be done in 24 hrs or so, as some people have mentioned.

1. Coromandel Exp, train # 2842
2. Howrah Mail, # 2840
3. Shalimar Exp #6323 (2 days/week, dep Chennai Friday & Sunday).

If you take into account the time it will take to get to the airport, security clearance, connecting flights through Bangalore and/or Hyderabad and so forth, why not take the train in comfort and the sights.

Cheers

Oh dear be sure I would be taking the train... If I wasn´t traveling with my grumpy hubby and my 60 years old mom
