Traveling with an older person and I am concerned about the discomfort going economy from NYC to Delhi.
Also need to be economical. Saw two possibilities posted by booking agents on the web. 1st- Aeroflot Business Class flight NYC-Delhi $2756. 2nd-Delta out of Newark, Economy flight $1074. Anyone got suggestions for cheaper, more comfortable flights. If Aeroflot is splendiferous, super roomy and with good food, we'd concider the extra $. but I suspect it is dreadful. Anyone with experience pls advise. tks, megan |

I've been with Aeroflot several times over the last twenty years, but never again!
The 'planes are OK, although often rather grubby inside. They are the only airline I've been with where cabin staff insisted on seeing your boarding pass when you are served with your vegetarian meal... it feels like they don't really believe you unless it's validated on the paper. The airhostesses are usually fairly grumpy, and some are built like Olympic shotputters. I saw one passenger being yelled at because he'd gone to the toilet to vomit, and hadn't used the airsickness bag! Worse comes in Moscow. My first stop through there wasn't bad - but that was in 1983. You got a free tour of the city, twelve hours in an OK hotel, and reasonable food with proper knives and forks. Times have changed since those lucky days! They seem to be often overbooked on the onward connections, so you may get told to wait at the airport for the next one. Very little information will be given about this. I was waiting behind a pleasant young Malaysian woman when I went to the "Help" desk to ask about my delayed flight to Kathmandu. "Shut up, my dear," said the imposing matriarch as the Malaysian woman requested more details of her connection to KL. I didn't fare much better, and had nearly 36 hours in the dreary airport. Sleep is possible on the floor of the restaurant after everyone's left, but the cleaning staff (more shotputters) arrive at 5am, and they know precisely two words of English, which are barked at anyone they encounter with an air of disdain: "No Sleeping!" The food (all meals) consisted of two pieces of black bread, a tiny slab of cheese and a blob of butter. Weak tea in a soggy paper cup. Only a fork is issued - no knives. When I was there, junkies were using the toilets to shoot up, and I saw splashes of blood in all the washbasins. I would say for someone with a bit more money to spend, an economy class ticket with one of the better airlines (Gulf Air, Emirates) would be a better start to the holiday than Aeroflot, but that's just my view.
