Question Getting cheap tickets on IA , Delhi - Varanasi ?

Hello,
I was looking on the Indian Airlines website and found a section with "auxilliary airfares" which seem to offer major discounts on main routes within India. My question is if I can get this discount before I leave for India. These special prices have to be booked 15 days before the flights and I do not see anyway to get this deal or even the 25% discount for < 30 at travelocity. Does anyone know if there is a way to book these special flights from the U.S. ? I appreciate any help that you can offer. Thanks.

Joshua

Hi Joshua,
Regarding the 'special' rates, you won't be able to book these in the states. I came across something similar for the trains in India,as far as i know these rates are for Indian Nationals only.

Yes Joshua, the rates are for Indian Nationals only.
Atleast i have confirmed this with Air Sahara, who also have this discount scheme.

Then just wondering how much more you have to pay for a ticket when you are not Indian?
Do they also have special deals when you just show up at the ticketcounter and ask if there is availability for a flight?

Nathalie,
It will be difficult to say exactly how much more you pay than an Indian national. As the different airlines have different rates.

Also the off-the-counter discount is also unheard of here.

But Indian Airlines have some special scemes for Foreign Nationals. Like 'Discover India ' :

Discover India
US $750 - 21 days
US $500 - 15 days

The Discover India Fare is available on the domestic network for unlimited travel in Economy class within 21/15 days of the start of the journey provided no city is touched more than once except for purpose of transfer / connection. Back tracking is not allowed.

And there are couple of other schemes.
Check out their website
http://indian-airlines.nic.in/fares/default.htm

Also i know of a travel agent in Mumbai who gives discount upto 5% on some routes.
You can contact him on panditkinjal@yahoo.com

Have a nice trip.
